Ice Mountain Has New Ownership And It's Our New Home, Too
After years of struggling to grow our association because of not having a true ice arena to skate out of, we finally have one. Unlike Perani Arena, which was our home for years but is a multi-purpose facility, Ice Mountain is an ice arena whose main purpose is to be an ice arena. It's very user friendly and has several advantages over Peran
i Arena, like the ice surface being easily accessible for our new sled players. And being in a true ice arena, our association's presents will be very visable and therefore we'll be better able to promote ourselves to the community. At Perani, we were lost in the makeup of the building and because of it being used for events other than hockey, most of which were / are lowly attended, we were limited to what we could do to attract players. More details of us being at Ice Mountain will be available in the coming days and will be posted here. Draft dates and times will be announced within the next two weeks. As we move forward, we'd ask that you'd give us a try. Board Meeting Minutes
At our board meeting on 7/18/12, Kevin Brackett, our former director and president, returned to our association and a motion was made by Mick Carroll, the interm director and president, for Kevin to resume his former positions. The motion was voted on and passed, 4-0. Kevin accepted and is once again our director and president. Mick Carroll is once again the coaching director and vice president. Also, Terry Sheehan is a new board member and accepted the role as treasurer. Our board now consists of Kevin Brackett, Mick Carroll, Tom Hutchings, Jeff Barat, and Terry Sheehan. We meet again in two weeks to finalize our draft dates and times, and to discuss our future at Ice Mountain Arena Complex. Unlike what you may hear from others in the area, we are GFHA and we're a very active and viable association. We're not EMHA, or a part of. We're here to provide the most affordable, fun experience in youth hockey. We can't speak for others and what they do, or better said, what they're good at doing, like saying things that aren't true. It's been an ongoing thing that continues year after year. Our move away from our former home to Ice Mountain Arena is a very welcomed one. The new owners want us there and we want to be there. And by standing firm in our beliefs, we now have a great place we can call home.. the new Ice Mountain Arena Complex. Grants
With the off season in full mode, new news comes slow as everyone's busy doing summer stuff but we're in the planning stages for this fall. An application for a grant through RBC (Royal Bank of Canada) and MAHA were recently submitted by our association. This grants would greatly aid in launching sled hockey this fall and also help our learn to skate program as we try to grow our program for the future. Stay tuned and revisit often for updates.
