Build Spotlight: LCT AK47

This battle worn LCT AK was brought in with an intention for a new life. I advised some simple upgrades like a Perun V3 mosfet, metal rack piston, Maple Leaf MR Hop bucking and Arcturus rotary hopup unit. With the stock spring it metered right under 1.4J. For a simple build it came out very nicely and should have quite a long life.

One advantage I like about the AK platform is you can test the entire gearbox and barrel assembly separate from the externals before you rebuild it. For troubleshooting air seal issues that can be very helpful.

Build Spotlight: S&T Sterling AEG

Check this wild card out, a British Sterling SMG made by S&T Armament. Featuring a split type proprietary gearbox, nozzle, tappet and hopup, and nearly no guides available online for disassembly, this is an amateur technician’s worst nightmare.

The most interesting part of disassembly was definitely the tappet-plate-dislodge from its track and bent upwards into the piston area to clear and extract the split gearbox from the cylindrical receiver.
Some typical buried screws and pins were all that was stopping me from overhauling this with a new SHS piston set, high torque motor, Maple Leaf bucking and Mosfet.
It took a concave nub well and despite the proprietary chamber is compatible with marui barrels, buckings and nubs.
The second most interesting part was that it’s wired backwards (?) in the sense negative was wired into the trigger contacts and both positive wires going to the motor.
After double checking the gear rotation it was normal and the new motor dropped in fine with a standard wiring. It’s extremely peculiar why this wasn’t wired normally, i’ve never ever seen a gun wired this way from factory. However it’s still a chinese made one off world war replica, in that genre it’s not even the most surprising thing i’ve ever seen. A lot of these models you just have to hope are Somewhat aftermarket compatible, and be happy with that.

The whole build was buttoned up and worked right away. It’s at 375fps .2g with a new bucking, the air seal is good so i left the spring stock and my client is happy.

It’s also got a one year warranty.

Build Spotlight: A&K M60

This A&K M60 was brought to me by TJ wanting reliability upgrades and direction for it. After advising a bullgear mag for feeding consistency he decided it was worth the price and the wait from Russia.

The gearbox was completely locked upon arrival and i noticed two gears looked like they were on an angle, they ended up having bent axles and were replaced for a G&G OEM set.
This M60 also got a SHS 22tpa high torque motor, aluminum cylinder head, and inline mosfet wired into the 3 prong connector.
It seemed to have some previous upgrades like shs metal rack piston and aluminum nozzle, these are definitely not A&K parts.
I also checked the bucking and it was pretty worn looking, it was replaced for a Maple Leaf silicone MR Hop 70D.

The magazine was externally wired to a separate micro battery per request from the owner and the whole build has a 1yr warranty.

TJ is happy and this gun is actually really fun to shoot. No air tank needed..

Build Spotlight: G&G x Cobalt Kinetics M4 AEG

Here is an interesting and rarely seen model by G&G x Cobalt. The entire receiver and stock including the motor grip is cast alloy. Internally it is a G&G G2 gearbox and hopup.

This one was having electrical issues (go figure) and due to the entirely metal casing i recommended a fresh etu and wiring swap.
It also got an upgraded tightbore inner barrel and MR hop bucking.

I am running the newest model Perun Lightning ETU’s which have had good results and compatibility like their predecessor. After a simple enough magnet placement process i was able to manually re-calibrate it and it functions correctly with this extremely wacky selector configuration.

The build is buttoned up and right at 1.5J/399fps with a 1 year warranty.

Repair spotlight: EMG Noveske N4 AEG

Today i completed a repair on this EMG N4 by APS. Originally brought to me for a spring swap the owner also mentioned problems with the threaded buffer tube stripping out of the receiver. After leaving with it tightened down and trying it for a game he brought it back wanting a permanent solution involving tac welding or driving a screw through the buffer to the lower.
Not being one to miss an opportunity to be thorough, I decided to drill and tap M3 threads through both sides of the receiver and recess grub screws into the buffer tube, to pin it on both sides. This method as opposed to a permanent screw or glue/loctite allows the buffer to still easily be removed to change the velocity spring. It also makes a really nice clean look that stands unnoticeable enough next to the modern, exposed fixture style of Noveske.

This repair came out really nice and i’m really happy with it!
