It is a culmination of the techniques & concepts found in several weapon-based martial arts of the Philippines, Thailand, and Okinawa. Armas-Kali is the personal curriculum arrangement, teaching methods & progressions of Guro T. It is based on the knowledge passed onto him from his instructors, as well his own personal study, research and discovery through friends and training partners. The defini
ng feature of Armas-Kali is the logical teaching order of the curriculum, designed to seamlessly blend the techniques and concepts of the styles it draws from. The main focus of the system is to start a student with the most simple, functional and application-based movements & techniques. Once this is established, the curriculum builds on that knowledge into more attribute-based development. This means techniques which, although still very effective, may require the student a longer amount of time and a deeper lever of understanding to master. Essentially... function first, then fancy follows. The curriculum consists of Slashing, Thrusting, Hacking, Striking, Disarms, Trapping, Locks & Tie-Ups. Students learn all these elements as well as develop coordination, timing, range, foot & body movement, speed, power and grace. There are five main weapon areas of study. IMPACT WEAPONS: Sticks, Staffs, Clubs etc.
2. EDGED WEAPONS: Knives, Swords, hatchet etc.
3. PUNCTURE WEAPONS: Knife, Spear, Sword, etc.
4. PROJECTILE WEAPONS: Rocks, Knives, Arrows, Guns
5. FLEXIBLE WEAPONS: Sarong, Malong, T-Shirt, Rope
Armas-Kali has many influences, and is derived from both personal research and the continual study of several arts. However the main art which has contributed most to our curriculum has been the LaCoste-Inosanto Kali blend.
