⭐️⭐️ Become a Volunteer with HOPE ⭐️⭐️
Volunteers are essential for HOPE’s success! They form a team with our instructors and horses to bring about remarkable outcomes for our riders, who may be facing physical, emotional, or mental challenges. Studies have shown that being involved with horses can have a calming, therapeutic effect on us — whether we are riding or just being near them!
Volunteers during our regular lesson days help their rider groom and prepare their horse, then act as a Horse Leader during the mounted lesson. You will be connecting with the rider, and helping them follow directions from the instructor. Some riders require a Safety Team consisting of one or two Sidewalkers, who help the rider feel secure in the saddle.
Our lessons are held on Wednesdays at the Whidbey Island Fairgrounds in Langley, WA, with our five week Summer session running from June 17 through July 15. We train our volunteers in the safe handling of horses, grooming, tacking up, and connecting with our riders; horse experience helpful but not essential. Volunteers can choose the three-hour shift that best fits their schedule; we have a special need for volunteers in the 1pm to 5pm shift.
Our next training session will be on JUNE 10, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. To register or for more information about volunteering with HOPE, email us at [email protected]. We will send you an application, liability release, and an online booklet describing our program and the responsibilities and job descriptions for our various volunteer positions. For the safety of our riders, staff, and horses, a background check is processed through the State of Washington on all volunteer applicants. Volunteers must be a minimum of 14 years old. Volunteering with HOPE earns community service credits.
Come join us for some very meaningful and rewarding experiences as you help our riders find their stride. More than likely you will get some “horse therapy” yourself in the process!
