This is the truth about not just softball but any sport. There is so much value in the lessons learned on the court, in the dirt, and on the ice!!!
The Dirt, The Dust, and The Daughter
People look at our schedule and say, "It's crazy to spend so much money and time on softball."
They see the bills for composite bats, expensive cleats, and tournament fees filling up the entire summer. They see us driving for hours under the scorching sun just to watch a few innings.
But they don't understand.
We are not paying for a uniform. We are paying for the armor our daughter will wear as she enters life.
We are not buying practice hours. We are buying her the resilience to stand up after a "strike out" with the whole crowd watching.
They see an expensive trip. I see those precious hours in the car, where my daughter actually opens up and confides in her parents - moments teens often keep to themselves.
The truth is:
We are not investing for her to "Go Pro."
We are investing so that when life throws her a difficult "change-up" at age 30, she will know how to adjust her feet, keep her composure, and deliver the decisive hit.
We are investing so she understands: The dirt on her face and the calluses on her hands are proof of a girl not afraid to get involved.
So, when you ask, "Is it worth it?"
Look into my daughter's eyes as she works with her teammates to pull off a "double play."
Look at how she learns that another's success does not diminish her own value.
It's not "too much" for a sport.
It's everything for a future where my daughter knows she can conquer anything.
