🚨 CASE CLOSED: WE FOUND OUR CULPRIT! 🦄

Did you solve the mystery?

The unicorn horn wasn't stolen by Lucky. It wasn't Scout, either. And those dark mane strands? A red herring!

The culprit was hiding in plain sight all along.

SKYLA DID IT. 👀

That's right. Our resident Starlet hid her own beloved unicorn horn, hoping to make her fellow minis look guilty and keep the spotlight for herself. We caught her trying it on in her run-in shed, and it wasn't long before she confessed everything.

She tried to play the victim and cast suspicion on others, but she had just as much motive and opportunity to take it... with one witness.

Baxter saw the whole thing. But instead of telling the truth, he accepted Skyla's bribe and kept quiet. The bribe? First dibs at their hay net. So much for staying out of trouble! 🌾

The horn has been recovered, the mystery is solved, and the minis have learned an important lesson: being an ambassador isn't about being the star. It's about representing something bigger than yourself.

📩 CASE FILE #003: A NOTE FROM THE VOLUNTEER

Just when we thought we were getting somewhere, a letter arrived from one of our volunteers.

It turns out some grooming tools were accidentally mixed up early Tuesday. That means those dark mane strands found in Skyla's locker might not belong to the mini we first suspected after all.

A red herring? Quite possibly. 👀

And there's more! The volunteer's letter helps account for Lucky and Faith during the critical window, which has now narrowed considerably. That clears two suspects from the scene.

But one mini's behavior has raised some new questions.

Baxter has been acting rather strangely. He's unusually interested in how the investigation is going, but seems especially eager for Scout to stop asking questions. Of course, Scout asks A LOT of questions, so perhaps Baxter is just tired of the interrogation!

And another thing... is Baxter stress-eating? 🤔

🔎 CASE FILE #002: SOMEONE KNOWS SOMETHING

The investigation has taken an interesting turn.

One of our horses, Donnie, overheard the mini girls talking about ExtraGive. It seems everyone had big plans to shine as an ambassador... but the conversation suggested Lucky and Scout may have had a chance to get near Skyla's locker.

But that's not all.

On Tuesday, investigators discovered dark-colored strands of mane inside Skyla's locker, right where the unicorn horn was last seen.

Whose mane is it? And why was it there?

Was someone trying to frame another mini? Or did our culprit leave behind a clue without realizing it?

The suspect list is getting interesting. 🔍

We've got a mystery on our hooves!

Our mini herd has just learned that they'll be ambassadors for GMTRC's ExtraGive, and everyone is eager to make an impression. But before the celebrations could begin, a crime was committed.

Skyla's beloved unicorn horn, the crowd-favorite costume piece, has disappeared from her locker! It was last seen at 8 a.m. this morning and discovered missing at 6 p.m. tonight. That leaves a whole day for mischief!

And with five ambitious minis hoping to shine, everyone has a motive. 👀

🐴 Lucky, The Colonel: The self-appointed boss. He believes leadership looks a lot like him.

🐴 Scout, The Professor: Curious, clever, and always investigating.

✨🐴 Mane Event 2026: A Night to Remember! 💙

What a night to celebrate 45 years of Horses: Changing Lives. Transforming Futures. And what a milestone year it was!

This year’s Mane Event welcomed more guests than ever before and featured not one, but three incredible student ambassadors! 💙 Hearing these students share what GMTRC means to them, how they’ve grown in confidence, and the friendships they’ve built through their lessons was the highlight of the evening. Their stories were a beautiful reminder of what happens when people find a place to belong, grow, and thrive together.

Of course, there was plenty more to celebrate! From live music and fun mini-horse-inspired drinks to our silent and live auctions, the evening was full of laughter, generosity, and community. It was also a joy to reconnect with familiar faces from the barn and spend time with friends we don’t always get to see, all dressed up for the occasion! 🥂🐴

And the best news of all? Together, we surpassed our fundraising goal AND last year’s record! 🎉

🐴💙 Student Spotlight: Luis! 💙🐴

In just three months at GMTRC, Luis has already made wonderful progress in his horsemanship journey! His favorite part of lessons? Steering! And when it comes to his equine partner, Echo, Luis loves his beautiful roan coat and gentleman-like personality. 🥰

Luis’s instructor has been especially impressed by his patience and willingness to learn:

“Luis loves the powerful, explosive speed of horses in competition and stories, but he exercises so much patience and restraint to learn the building blocks of riding, one step at a time. He has come so far in his posture, steering, and gentle cues for walk and whoa. I have no doubt that he will fly at the right time.”

Luis’s journey is a wonderful reminder that big dreams are built one step at a time. With patience, practice, and a growing connection with Echo, he’s laying the foundation for what’s ahead. We can’t wait to see where his journey takes him! 💙

🐴 Behind the Scenes: Pressure & Release

How do horses learn what we're asking them to do?

One common training technique is called pressure and release. The idea is simple: we give the horse a clear, appropriate cue, and the moment they respond, we release the cue.

For example, when asking a horse to walk forward, a handler might apply a gentle forward cue with the lead rope. As soon as the horse takes a step forward, that cue softens. The horse begins to learn:

“When I respond to that cue, the pressure goes away.”

The goal isn't to keep increasing pressure until the horse gives in. Instead, we start with the lightest cue possible, give the horse a chance to respond, and reward the right answer by releasing the pressure.

And timing matters! If we continue the cue after the horse has already responded, we can actually make it harder for them to understand what we were asking.

That's why good horsemanship is about clear, consistent, and fair communication. We want our horses to learn that they can respond to quiet cues and make good choices, rather than needing bigger and bigger signals.

Sometimes, the most important part of asking is knowing when to stop asking. 💙🐴
