In 1938, a man named Carl Stotz came up with the idea of organizing baseball for boys in his hometown of Williamsport, PA. Today Little League is the largest organized youth sports program in the world. There are more than 2 million kids who play Little League baseball. We have all seen the Little League World Series games on TV, but unfortunately Lancaster did not have a Little League charter and
therefore could not participate in the tournament. That all changed in 2009 with the birth of Lancaster Youth Baseball Association Little League. Thanks to many dedicated parents, coaches, board members and (most importantly) our kids, we obtained Lancaster's first Little League charter and had a great inaugural season. This year will mark our third Little League season and we thank everyone who has helped put Lancaster on the Little League map! Our goal is the same as the original goal from 1938, "to give the boys and girls of Lancaster a game that provides fundamental principles (sportsmanship, fair play and teamwork) they can use later in life to become good citizens". Our local LYBA Little League is organized in a way that attempts to keep children together with their home school district. We want our kids to play together from tee-ball through the majors so that by they time they reach high school, they will be more than just teammates, but good friends. Lancaster's Little League competes against Fisher Catholic, Fairfield Union, Berne Union, Baltimore and Bloom Carrol leagues during the regular season. In mid-June, LYBA selects 14 minor league kids and 14 major league kids to participate in the Little League World Series tournament against other teams in our Ohio Little League district. Winners eventually go on to where it all began, Williamsport, PA. Together, as we continue to grow and improve, Lancaster Ohio will be represented there! Thank you all for the privilege of trusting your child to LYBA and Little League baseball.
