We will have food trucks on-site offering a variety of food and beverages for purchase, carnival games, Trunk or Treat hosted by Manheim Township Police Department, face painting, new games, costume parade and a new attraction, Skeleton Stroll (Maze)!

We're also collecting coats & jackets, and non-perishable food items to help those in need. Donate what you can.

Monday, July 13th Update

As of 5:00pm, only one (1) roadway remains closed/impassable due to a low hanging wire. Several streets remain down to a single lane, but they are open and passable.

MT Public Works continues working on debris removal and reopening of Township facilities and parks. They have also transitioned today to debris management on public roadways and rights-of-way. (See below)

Landis Woods Park continues to be marked as CLOSED until further notice, for safety reasons. All trails are blocked and the park is not safe for use due to the number of trees down and hanging branches. The Township respectfully requests that all residents adhere to this closing and do not enter the park for any reason for their own safety.

Perelman Park has reopened. The tree blocking the park has been removed, and the park has been evaluated for safety due to other trees down and hanging limbs, and it has been determined that the park can reopen.

Extension of free resident drop off at MT Compost Park and additional Sunday hours. The Manheim Township Compost Park on Oregon Pike is operating on regular hours (7:00am to 7:00pm Monday through Saturday) and now extended hours on Sundays from 7:00am to 7:00pm through July 26th. The Compost Park will continue to operate at no cost to Manheim Township residents who are cleaning up storm debris through Sunday July 26th. REMINDER that the Compost Park is for residential use – not open to commercial contractors. Residents must present a MT Compost Park card indicating that they are a Township resident; Compost Park cards are available at the MT Municipal Office located at 1840 Municipal Drive, Monday through Friday 7:30am to 4:30pm.

Debris Management. Today Manheim Township Public Works and our contracted tree service vendor, began the process of ensuring each public roadway and the associated right-of-way is clear and safe. We are asking for the resident’s patience, as this process will take an extended period of time to complete, estimated to be weeks, and potentially a month or more until all neighborhoods in the Township are completed. MT Public Works will be going systematically neighborhood by neighborhood, street by street, starting with neighborhoods that were hardest hit by the storm.

We will not be publishing a schedule for this work, as we will be reevaluating daily the progress we are making as well as the progress made by residents and contractors throughout the Township. We will continue to encourage residents to try and remove debris to the MT Compost Park if they are able. This will take a Team approach by the residents, contractors, and the Township itself to successfully restore our great Township to pre-storm conditions. We can assure all residents that through this process, over the coming weeks, that all neighborhoods and streets in the Township will be visited by our public works staff.

As a reminder - residents should NOT move any additional debris onto any public roadway or the public right-of-way. The Townships debris management plan has been put into place to make the public roadways and rights-of-way safe for the public: it is NOT intended to function as a clean-up service, or substitute for any work on private property that a resident would do or hire a contractor to do.

Damage Assessment/Storm Damage Reporting. Manheim Township, in conjunction with the Lancaster County Department of Public Safety (LCDPS) wants to remind residents to report their storm damage from the 4th of July storm. Damage assessment and damage reporting does start at the local level, but the LCDPS has made a link available for residents to report their individual damages. Manheim Township is encouraging residents to use this link to report damage; please DO NOT call Manheim Township directly.

The Township also encourages and reminds residents to contact their homeowner’s insurance to file their claim for damages; there is no expectation of public assistance for this storm event at this time.

Friday, July 10th Update

As of 10:00am, less than six (6) roadways remain closed/blocked throughout the Township. These closures remain within residential neighborhoods, with all main roadways now open.

Only one traffic signal, Oregon Pike at East Roseville Road, remains as not functioning. Stop signs are in place.

MT Public Works continues working on the remaining road openings, debris removal and reopening of Township facilities. They will be transitioning to debris management starting on Monday July 13th (See below).

PPL is reporting 100% restoration throughout the Township. There will be no additional updates on utility-related issues, residents can check PPL directly at https://www.pplelectric.com/

Overlook Golf Course is now operating with full 18 holes open as of Friday morning.

Wednesday, July 8th Evening Update:

As of 9:00pm this evening, additional roadways have been reopened throughout the Township. At this time, we believe approximately six to eight 6-8) road closures are still in place, however that count is fluid as multiple utility crews are working in most of the closure locations. Most of the closures remain within residential neighborhoods, however, one (1) closure continues to impact a major roadway which is:

East Roseville Road closed between Oregon Pike and Anne Avenue.

Utility crews continue to work in that area, and the roadway is expected to reopen in the near future.

MT Public Works will resume work in the morning, working with utility companies on the remaining road openings, debris removal and reopening of Township facilities.

Numerous areas of the Township continue to see power restored. PPL continues to report that their goal is to have 100% restoration of the original outages by 11:00pm Wednesday night; as of 9:00pm this evening however, there are still approximately 400 residential outages concentrated in several of the hardest hit neighborhoods.

The Manheim Township Public Library is operating on normal hours and will again be providing space for residents who are without power to charge their devices, with Wi-Fi available, and air-conditioned space to relax and recharge through today.

The Manheim Township Compost Park on Oregon Pike is operating on regular hours (7:00am to 7:00pm) and will continue to operate at no cost to Manheim Township residents who are cleaning up storm debris through next Sunday July 12th.

Wednesday, July 8th Afternoon Update:

As of 2:00pm this afternoon, additional roadways have been reopened throughout the Township. At this time, we believe approximately fourteen (14) road closures are still in place, however that count is fluid as multiple utility crews are working in most of the closure locations.

Most of the closures remain within residential neighborhoods, however, one (1) closure continues to impact a major roadway which is:

East Roseville Road closed between Oregon Pike and Anne Avenue.

BOTH Valley Road between Blue Streak Boulevard and Shaub Road and Oregon Pike at Roseville Road have fully reopened to traffic.

Only two (2) traffic signals (one previously not reported) remain as not functioning and are dark:
New Holland Pike at Butter Road
Oregon Pike at East Roseville Road

Per the motor vehicle code, a signalized intersection that is out SHOULD BE TREATED AS A FOUR-WAY STOP SIGN AND ALL MOTORISTS SHOULD STOP BEFORE PROCEEDING.

MT Public Works continues to work with utility companies on road openings, debris removal and reopening of Township facilities.

MT Fire Rescue on-duty personnel are again assisting residents in neighborhoods as available time permits between answering 911-calls for service, trying to assist residents with clean-up operations. This will continue through today.

Tuesday, July 7th Evening Update

As of 9:00pm this evening, additional roadways have been reopened throughout the Township. At this time, there are eighteen (18) road closures still in place, down from thirty-two (32) at this time yesterday. Most of the closures are within residential neighborhoods, however, three closures continue to impact major roadways which include:

Oregon Pike closed between East Roseville Road and Crooked Oak Drive.
East Roseville Road closed between Oregon Pike and Municipal Drive.
Valley Road closed between Blue Streak Boulevard and Shaub Road.

As of 9:00pm this evening, there are utility and/or tree crews actively working at each of those three locations.

Traffic signals that are not functioning and are dark or are on flash have been reduced from seven (7) earlier today to three (3), and include:
Oregon Pike at Jake Landis Road
Oregon Pike at East Roseville Road
Harrisburg Pike at Crossings Boulevard (On Flash)

Per the motor vehicle code, a signalized intersection that is out SHOULD BE TREATED AS A FOUR-WAY STOP SIGN AND ALL MOTORISTS SHOULD STOP BEFORE PROCEEDING.

MT Public Works will continue to assist with street openings tomorrow and debris removal from Township facilities in order to assist with reopening of these facilities.

MT Fire Rescue on-duty personnel will again be assisting residents in neighborhoods as available time permits between answering 911-calls for service, trying to assist residents with clean-up operations.

​As of 2:00pm this afternoon, additional roadways are in the final stages of being reopened. We have dropped below yesterday’s number of thirty-two (32) roadways closed. We will provide a current count and list in this evening’s update.​

Fruitville Pike at Buch Avenue

MT Public Works continues to assist with street openings, assessing damage and starting clean-up operations at several Township facilities such as Overlook and Skyline pool.

Monday Afternoon, July 6th Update:

As of 6:30am today, public works crews were out across the Township working on additional road cleanups, assessing Township-owned infrastructure, and attempting to reopen and assess several parks that have been closed since Saturday night.

There are no additional pending calls for 911-service for police or fire rescue after last evenings storm.

Public works is continuing to work to make as many Township-owned roadways passable as possible. As previously noted, Township owned roadways that are still blocked are due to either some type of utility or power wire in the downed trees which must be handled by the utility company before the trees can be removed, or the trees are too large for Township owned resources and are awaiting the Township’s contracted tree vendor to arrive and remove the tree. The Township understands the frustration this may cause, but we ask for the publics patience as we try to work through these issues.

As of 1:00pm today, there are still forty (40) state and Township owned roadways that are blocked by downed trees and/or wires. Most of those closures are awaiting PPL action to clear downed wires before trees can be cut and removed in order to open the roadway.

9 PM UPDATE:

As of 9:00pm this evening, response and clean-up operations by Manheim Township staff have ended for the day. Public works and Code Compliance staff will resume operations first thing Monday morning.

Police and fire rescue have worked through all pending 911-calls for service, as of 8:00pm there are no pending 911-calls for service in Manheim Township.

Public works has worked to make as many Township-owned roadways passable as possible. Township owned roadways that are still blocked are due to either some type of utility or power wire in the downed trees which must be handled by the utility company before the trees can be removed, or the trees are too large for Township owned resources and are awaiting the Township’s contracted tree vendor to arrive and remove the tree
There are several state-owned roadways that remain blocked.

PennDOT is also waiting for utility issues to be handled before they can remove trees and open the roadways.

Expect roadways that were noted in the previous press release to be blocked for the Monday morning commute; allow extra time and plan an alternate route if necessary.

This severe storm was unprecedented in the damage it caused throughout areas of the Township, and it will take potentially several days for clean up and full restoration to occur.

Press Release sent earlier in the day: Manheim Township officials and staff are ensuring that public safety remains the top priority during and after the severe thunderstorms that swept through the area. Significant damage has been reported throughout the Township. Police, Fire Rescue, Codes Enforcement, and Public Works crews are actively assessing affected areas and documenting damage since the storm occurred.

Public Works is working to clear Township roads and make them passable, while PennDOT crews have been dispatched to clear state-maintained roadways. In areas where trees have fallen onto power lines, PPL must first secure the electrical hazard before the trees can be safely removed.

Fire Rescue is coordinating with Township and County Emergency Management to ensure residents who need additional assistance, including home oxygen support or emergency shelter, receive the necessary resources.Township staff continue to work diligently to respond to all areas and keep the community safe.

The Township Compost Site is open 11am-5pm today and is available for Township residents during the cleanup efforts.

Homeowners should use extreme caution when cleaning up or around fallen trees due to the potential presence of downed or energized power lines.

If you encounter a non-functioning traffic signal, treat the intersection as a four-way stop. Come to a complete stop, yield to other vehicles as required, and proceed only when it is safe.

Several roadways throughout Manheim Township are currently impassable or only partially passable due to downed trees, utility lines, and storm debris. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, use alternate routes when possible, and exercise caution around work crews and emergency responders.
