This spicebush swallowtail caterpillar is absolutely one of the cutest caterpillars out there. With those big eyespots, it looks like it walked straight out of a cartoon or a Pokémon game. Those ‘eyes’ are just markings to scare predators, but they make it adorable to us.

One of my favorite caterpillar finds from last year was this Dogbane Tiger Moth caterpillar. It had just shed, so its hairs were still wet and glistening in the sunlight. The old skin sat behind it like a little fluff ball. Such a fun moment to stumble across on the trail.

Paper wasps often get a bad reputation, but they’re actually hardworking allies in the garden. They help control caterpillars, beetle larvae, and other insects that can quickly damage plants. By keeping pest numbers down, they support healthier flowers, veggies, and native plants. As long as their nest isn’t in a high‑traffic spot, giving them space can make a big difference for the local ecosystem.

My schedule for the last month has been absolutely crazy. I'm almost caught up on some stuff that had to be taken care of. Hopefully soon, I can get back to exploring our great state.

With that being said, I completely forgot to post this yesterday.
