⛳ SODBUSTER TOURNAMENT UPDATE ⛳

Well… turns out we had more people talking about playing than actually signing up.

Due to a lack of teams, the 2026 SAGC Sodbuster Tournament has been canceled.

We are just as disappointed as you are, and were really looking forward to watching some of you live up to the name!

But don’t worry, redemption is right around the corner…

🇺🇸 Memorial Day Triple Play – May 23rd 🇺🇸
Mark your calendars and start getting your team together now. Keep an eye out for the official flyer and details coming in the next few weeks.

Fingers crossed that we can get this one across the finish line… 🤞

Congratulations to our very own SAGC member, Jonathan Michael Orozco!! ⛳️🏌🏽‍♂️

A Hole-in-One on the first swing of Easter Sunday is what we call a “double whammy” in the biz. 😎

And for those wondering, members playing in the “Lunch Bunch” quota game often tee off from not only #1, but also #5 depending on how many players join the game. Today’s game had a great turnout, and Orozco’s group got started on Hole #5 to even out play across the course. Please check with staff in the clubhouse before starting on any hole other than #1.

Happy Easter from your friends at SAGC! 🐣

⛳ IMPORTANT SAGC COURSE POLICY UPDATE ⛳

After careful consideration, the SAGC Board of Directors will be implementing the following changes effective immediately:

• $25 Tee Time Reservation Fee •
All tee times will now require a non-refundable $25 reservation fee. No-shows will be charged double. Credit card payment will be required upfront.

• Permanent Cart Path Only •
To preserve course conditions, and in collaboration with our course superintendent, SAGC will now be cart path only at all times. Handicap flag players will not be exempt.

• Course Damage Fine System •
All unrepaired divots will now result in a $25 fine per incident. Unrepaired ball marks on the green will result in a $50 fine and revocation of playing rights.

To ensure compliance, both the cart path rule and fine system will be monitored via aerial drone photography, thanks to our friends at the United States Air Force and the Colorado Bureau of Investigations.

We appreciate your cooperation as we continue improving course conditions and enhancing the player experience.

🛑 𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐓 𝐒𝐀𝐆𝐂 𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒 🛑

• 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟭𝟱𝘁𝗵 •
The course will be open Sunrise to Sunset (weather permitting). Yes, we know it’s “summer hours,” but this is still Colorado… so if it’s below 40° or if there’s frost on the ground, the course is closed. Mother Nature still runs this place and as the days get longer, so will the hours… until eventually Terry has to roll out of bed and keep the course open from 7:00AM-7:30 PM every day! We’re all praying for him. 🙏🏼

• 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟭𝟱𝘁𝗵 •
Time to start using your GHIN and begin posting honest scores. That 8.2 you’ve been bragging about all winter might need a little verification, big dawg! Sandbaggers need not apply. 🚫

• 𝗟𝗖𝗖 𝗠𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 – 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟭𝟵𝘁𝗵 •
The course will be CLOSED on Thursday, March 19 for the LCC Men’s Invitational. We encourage members and patrons to come out and support the Lamar Community College Men’s Team as they kick off their spring season and aim to bring home LCC’s first Region IX Title. Good luck this season, Lopes! 🏌️‍♂️

• 𝗜𝗰𝗲 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲 – 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟭𝘀𝘁 •
The 2026 SAGC Ice Breaker Scramble is next Saturday, meaning the course will be CLOSED. Call the pro shop if you want to see if there are spots left for your team.
🍔 Drive-by lunch + 🧀 after-round hors d’oeuvres included for participants.

• 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 – 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟭𝘀𝘁 | 𝟲𝗣𝗠 •
For members only and held in the Calcutta Room after the tournament. This is the perfect chance for grumpy old men to air their frustrations directly to the Board instead of behind their backs! Also — two board seats are up for election, so member attendance matters. 👴🏼

• 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗿𝘆’𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗗𝗮𝗺𝗻𝗶𝘁! •
Some of you have apparently been hoarding the pro shop coolers. We understand times are tough… but a soft-sided cooler? Really? It's not toilet paper and this isn't 2020... Please return them before Terry is forced to raise beer prices to $8 a pop so he can afford to buy more. I call that a lose-lose scenario. 🍺😅

**DISCLAIMER**
Summer hours and summer temps are here...
But your golf game still looks to be in winter form. 🥶

⛳ 𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐄 𝐁𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐒𝐀𝐆𝐂 ⛳

Alright everyone… we need to address the elephant on the driving range.

At the March 10th SAGC Board of Directors meeting, the board met with Course Superintendent Sean McTaggart and Clubhouse Manager Terry Turner to discuss the rollout of the 3,600 brand-new Bridgestone range balls we announced earlier this month. After some discussion, it was decided that the new range balls will NOT be released on March 21st as originally stated.

Why you may ask? First… let’s start with the obvious problem: Our volunteer social media manager...🤦🏽‍♂️He tends to get a little ahead of himself. Shocking, we know.

Turns out the new range balls, while technically flight-reduced, are also roughly 30 years younger than the current balls, which means they naturally fly farther. And until the new tee box and full-length practice facility are fully ready to go, we don’t have enough real estate to let everyone start launching nukes into Baca County.

Which brings us to the second problem: some of you people hit the ball too damn far!

Like, seriously. A few of you long-ball hitters are already flirting with the edge of Hole #3. Give you brand-new ones and we’d be retrieving them somewhere near Amarillo.

And finally, we must place a small amount of blame on the SAGC Board of Directors, who had the 𝒂𝙗𝒔𝙤𝒍𝙪𝒕𝙚 𝙖𝒖𝙙𝒂𝙘𝒊𝙩𝒚 to be pragmatic and strategic by ensuring the range renovations are finished and the new grass has time to establish itself before absorbing daily practice abuse.

Typical "responsible leadership" behavior amirite... 🙄

So for now, the new balls will remain in their boxes for safe keeping until the range improvements are complete and the full-length range can be used as intended. Trust us: they’re worth the wait!

More updates on the range project will be coming soon as improvements continue. And as always, thank you to our members and patrons for your patience while we continue reinvesting in the course and facilities.

UPDATED DISCLAIMER:
We can delay the range balls…
but we still can’t fix your duck hook. 🏌️‍♂️

Congratulations to Cody Shatzer, an LCC Runnin’ Lope and incredible golfer, on his Hole-In-One! Good luck this year to the LCC Men's Golf team as they set their sights on securing a Region IX Title. 🏌️‍♂️

⛳ MORE IMPROVEMENTS at SAGC ⛳️

3,600 brand-new Bridgestone 2-piece range balls just showed up to replace the decades-old practice balls that have been abused and blamed for bad shots since before the Carter Administration. Your tee shot on Hole #5 may still slice… but at least now it won’t be the ball to blame!

We’ll officially be rolling these out (pun intended) the weekend of March 21st. Oh, and if we catch you playing these PRACTICE BALLS on the course, your SAGC golfing privileges can and will be revoked. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. 🤷🏻‍♂️

You may also notice some activity out at the driving range. With the help of Course Superintendent Sean McTaggart and his staff, Board President and Excavator Extraordinaire Dean Reed, and some in-kind assistance from the City of Lamar, we’re redeveloping the range to create a full-length practice area with a newly leveled tee box. That means you’ll finally be able to practice your driver without feeling bad about breaking the rules! Yeah, we see you Mr. Bates 👀

More updates and improvements will continue throughout the year as SAGC keeps investing in the course and facilities.

And a big THANK YOU from the SAGC Staff and Board of Directors to our members (well, most of our members) and patrons for your patience while we make these much-needed upgrades. We promise it’ll be worth it!

We’re excited to share this update from Apex Garage Door Solutions LLC as they begin work at Spreading Antlers Golf Club.

The SAGC Board of Directors is committed to continued reinvestment in our course and facilities, and this project marks a big step forward by replacing all 58 golf cart shed doors to improve functionality, security, and overall appearance.

These kinds of upgrades may not always be flashy, but they matter. They protect member property, improve the player experience, and ensure our facilities are built to last.

We appreciate Apex’s professionalism and look forward to sharing more progress along the way.

Here’s to steady improvements and a stronger future for SAGC. ⛳️
