Senior Night comes with a lot of emotion—for the players, their families, and everyone who’s been part of the ride.

Tomorrow night, we’ll recognize our seniors and the years of dedication that brought them here. It’s a moment to reflect, to celebrate, and to be grateful for the memories made along the way.

Thank you to the families who’ve supported these athletes season after season. We hope to see you at the rink.

RANGER HOCKEY ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT #3

Just in time for Alumni night this Saturday 12/20 at Winterhurst 7 pm!

This week we are featuring Will Holden. Will is a Lakewood grad from 2020 and has played for the Wooster Oilers 20-21, Fort Wayne Spacemen 21-22, Wooster Oilers 22-23, Kalkaska Battlers 23/25 (Assistant Captain), Danville Dashers 24-25 and the Wooster Bulls (captain 25-current. Not only is Will a great hockey player, he’s an even better person that still stays involved with the LHS team and his community. Here’s a little more info on Will Holden.

-Why did you decide to play hockey at LHS over other programs?…

“I played at LHS because it was my schools team. It was an honor to be able to represent my school and my city”

-What is your favorite memory playing at LHS?…

“I dont have a single greatest memory. Even after all the cool places I’ve played, and all the great experiences ive been blessed to have, I’m still jealous of those current Lakewood players. I cherished every second of those 4 years I was a Ranger, and I’d do anything to go back in time and do it again.”

Do you have any advice for kids that want to play at the next level?…

“Getting to the next level is hard. And then moving up from there is even harder. But don’t let that fill your mind with doubts. Worry about playing the right way at the level you’re at, and the pieces will fall together. Control your controllables and let the rest go!”

Due to weather forecast the rangers tournament game vs Canfield is cancelled today 12/13. We’re back at it 12/14 at 12:30 pm vs North Olmsted at Winterhurst.

RANGER ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT #2

This week we will profile former Ranger Austin Scherer. Austin played 4 years at LHS, was Captan his senior year and is continuing his playing career in the ACHA with Cleveland State. Austin was a true leader and he continues to prove it by being a captain at Cleveland State. He even spent a few seasons helping coach the Rangers after he graduated Here is what Austin has to say about his time at LHS.

Why did you choose to play hockey at Lakewood High?
“I played hockey at LHS because I wanted to continue to play competitive hockey and Lakewood was a better option than playing club or travel league”.

What is your favorite memory while playing at LHS?
“We were in a tight game on my senior night and I played almost the entire 3rd period. I ended up scoring the game tying goal to force OT and then played almost the entire OT period.”

What advice would you give kids that want to continue playing hockey after high school?
“My advice is to give your best effort on and off the ice and remember to have fun while doing so.”

Thanks Austin! Keep up the good work!!!

RANGER ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT
This season we will be spotlighting former Rangers that went on to play at the next level. They’ll answer a few questions and give advice to current and upcoming LHS hockey players. Since we have 8 girls on the squad this year we decided to lead off with one of Lakewood’s best, Christine Patno.

When asked why she chose to play hockey at LHS…
“I graduated in 1999 and I
Played for LHS because it was the best way to challenge myself (at that time, no girl had ever played on the boys varsity team) and get faster/stronger compared to playing against the women.”

Where did you play after graduating from LHS?

“ I Was recruited by several colleges, but obviously, to become a Buckeye was a no brainer. I was a 4-year scholarship athlete from 2000-2004 at Ohio State University. After graduation, I went on to play for the the semi -professional women's team, Minnesota Whitecaps, such played in the (formerly known as) NWHL based out of Canada. After that, went on to become an NCAA D1 college coach at Niagara University.
Other doors opened up for me from playing hockey!”

When asked what her favorite LHS Hockey memory was Christine said…

“My best memory of playing for LHS was when we played against Cleveland Heights and I took out a huge D at our blue line, then went down the ice with Vanuch and scored a goal... The place went freaking crazy (away game).”

When asked what advice she would give players that want to play after high school…

“What I would tell the kids that want to play at the next level.... They should be sure to position themselves to be seen at tournaments where the recruiters go to watch the games.. also, they should be sure to focus on their studies, fitness/conditioning, diet and mental health (positive self talk and being able to move on after making mistakes, etc)”

Lakewood plays Nordonia at home tonight 11/22 at 7 pm. Come support the team! Stay tuned for our Ranger Alumni spotlight next week!kee

💜 Thank you, everyone! We never imagined such an outpouring of support!

Thanks to your generosity, we crushed our goal. That means we can get new equipment this year and do more for our community.

The kids bonded as a team and got to pie Coach Senk. He didn’t seem to mind that much. He even said it tasted good!

We hope to see you this season. 🙌🏒

THANK YOU! 🚗💦
