Ariana Castro Ready To Seize Her Opportunity

17-year old Ari Castro is relishing the chance to play after being named in the match-day squad for the WASL contest at Chicago on Sunday afternoon.
Castro admitted that she is eager to break into the senior side in 2017.
She said: “The coach has promised me nothing. He’s just told me to keep working hard every day. So as yet I don’t know what my chance is, but I pray that it will come soon. I want to prove this winter that I am ready for the next level.“
The right back describes herself as a defense-first kind of player, though she's not afraid to burst forward and contribute on offense either.

Castro is confident in the team‘s chances on Sunday, saying: “We have some good players, a very young squad but a good chance for 3 points. We have players who can score goals, we have many strengths, but defensively we are starting to look good.”

Lionesses coach Justin Crew believes Castro can become a good player for the club, but has told the defender to make sure she takes her chances this WASL season.
"Ari has the potential to be a reliable player for us. In training she continues to show she has the potential to play, she now has to transfer that into the games. "The more she does that - against Chicago she will have an opportunity - the more we will be tempted to say next spring, 'let's do it'."

Young Lionesses Ready For First Challenge

The Women's Arena Soccer League season kicks off in Chicago this week and Justin Crew's Young Lionesses are eager to get started. Their recent pedigree at WPSL Under-20 level is very good, with league fourth place finishes 2015 and 2016.

In 2015, a squad that included the likes of Olivia Shaw, Olivia Hansen, Sammi Bugay, MC Wright, Logan and Alex Gary lost to eventual champions Motor City FC 1-0. The Motor City squad included current USA U-20 national team players Emily Ogle and Jessie Scarpa.
Ahead of the season opener, coach Justin Crew said: 'We know it’s a going to be tough winter with good competition. But we just have to make sure that we’re ready come Chicago on Sunday (2:00pm local time) which is what we’re aiming to do.’
'We are young, but these players although only 16 and 17 years old have 2 years of this level under their belts and we will not use our youthfulness as an excuse.'

Players to watch for FC Indiana
Sammi Bugay - the 17-year-old midfielder is a highly-regarded prospect and has developed a maturity beyond her years by playing in the Lionesses' U20 and WPSL teams. Bugay has composure and vision, as proven by her record of six assists in nine WPSL U-20 outings.
Olivia Hansen - the industrious and disciplined defender (15 years old) has made big strides at FC Indiana this season. Hansen, who can play right across the back four but is predominantly a right back, has been at FC Indiana since the age of twelve.
Seja Lang - the 14-year-old winger has enjoyed a successful season that saw her make 2 WPSL appearances. Quick, tricky, skillful and with an eye for goal, Seja could well prove a star in the making.

Gary Sisters Central To Lionesses Success

16-year old Logan lines up in defense, while 15-year old Alex plays in midfield. The Gary sisters joined FC Indiana 3 years ago and have since gone on to represent the club at every youth level and in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL). This week, they are busy getting ready for a Women's Arena Soccer League showdown against Chicago Warriors on Sunday.

The pair have been kicking a ball around together for years before moving to FC Indiana. Buoyed by considerable experience of training with and playing against D1 college players, Logan and Alex are ready for to make their marks in WPSL this summer and use the WASL competition this winter to get ready.
Their trainer Chris Castro said: “Both Logan and Alex are very dedicated, have strong family support and are intelligent players.”

Belying her 16 years, Logan seems to have already mastered the tricky art of communicating and organizing without overdoing things. She consistently makes good choices in the back, passes well, and encourages teammates.

Alex, a holding midfielder is called by FC Indiana U-20 coach Justin Crew a pattern disruptor, a player who reads the game well, anticipates and breaks down opposition attacks. "What they have in common is their kindness, generosity and down-to-earth nature,” added Crew.

One month ago Marquette women’s soccer went to Creighton and blew a two-goal lead for the third game in a row, coming up short in a 3-2 overtime loss. During that three-game stretch the offense had suddenly come to life, but the defense was sputtering. 11 games into the season the Golden Eagles had…

Youthful Lionesses Ready for Winter Campaign

There’s been a sense of cautious optimism in the FC Indiana women’s team camp as the squad gets set for the upcoming Women’s Arena Soccer League season.

Coach Justin Crew said he is pleased with progress. “My initial impression of this squad is good,” he said. I feel this group has come a long way. Our fitness level has massively improved but one of the main things that we’re learning is a playing style and how we are going to play in the coming season against college age competition,” Crew said.

The coach also made this assessment of the squad he’ll be taking into the 2016-17 campaign: “There’s a lot we can develop tactically. I think the actual technical attributes are very impressive. Physically, we definitely are at a good point.”

FC Indiana will field the youngest side in the league, with an average age of its players being 17. “For example, Seja Lang, although only 13 years old, already has a WPSL U20 campaign under her belt. So, we have a very, very young squad and that is something that we are very proud of and that is something that I’m very proud to be developing. Players like Olivia Shaw, Olivia Hansen, Sammi Bugay, Mary Cate Wright, Logan Gary, Alex Gary have been playing in the WPSL against Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Duke, Penn State players so in a way they know what to expect this winter,” Crew said.

The team’s captain, Sammi Bugay (16 years old), was cautiously optimistic about their chances this season. “I think you should always want to win but we have to be realistic,” Bugay said. “We have a young team. There are very strong teams we will face. Our objective this winter is tactical improvement first and foremost.”
Meantime, Crew just wants to see the best from the squad. “Putting these young players in a very difficult environment where they will play against college players will only benefit them long term.” he said.
The coach added that the most important thing is to perform well. “This is all about getting them ready for D1 college competition and as I tell college coaches, FC Indiana guarantees college coaches that our players will be pass accuracy, key pass, and duels won leaders on their college teams.” he said.

FC Indiana begins its 2016-17 WASL season a match-up against Chicago Warriors on Sunday, December 11 with a 2:00 p.m. kickoff at the the George Leoni Complex in Chicago.
