🧠Exercise has a direct effect on the brain!!

🚶‍♀️When you walk...

💓Your body increases blood to the brain, delivering oxygen and nutrients that support brain function and mood.

🔋You stimulate the release of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine.

🧘You reduce cortisol!!!

🌱You increase production of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) a protein that's referred to as the fertilizer of the brain!!

🌜You improve sleep quality.

🌈Even a 10 minute brisk walk improves mood!

💌Every step sends a message to the brain that says "we're moving, we're healthy, we are taking care of ourselves!"

🏅Today's challenge: TAKE A WALK! Notice your surroundings, pay attention to how you feel before and after.

🧠Your brain will thank you!

🎾One of the biggest injury risks isn't AGE- It's asking your body to do something it hasn't practiced!!

🎾As an example, many pickleball injuries happen during sudden starts, stops, pivots or reaching movements.

🎾So, your body will respond best when you regularly expose it to these movements in small safe doses before game day!

🎾Because yes, your muscles need the strength and mobility, but your nervous system also needs rehearsal!

🎾At PT Professionals we focus on ensuring your body is well equipped to handle the activities you love doing, so you are confident from the start!

🎾We don't believe in exercising just to burn calories or to check a box.

🎾We guide you through purposeful movement to prepare your body for the life you want to live!

🎾For our pickleball players that might mean practicing lateral stepping, balance, rotations and quick reactions!!

🎾When we train with intention we build strength, coordination, confidence and body awareness- all of which greatly reduce the risk of injury.

🤔What is an isometric exercise exactly??

👩‍🎓An isometric exercise is when a muscle contracts but the joint doesn't move.

Think:
💪Holding a plank
🧱Wall sit
🍑Glute squeezes
🙏Pressing your hands together

😍Your muscles are hard at work but the joints are staying still!!

😮Isometrics are often used when movement is painful, limited or not yet safe.

They're great because they:
🧘‍♂️ are low impact
🤠 can be modified for just about anyone at any level
😷help maintain strength during recovery
🤩 improve joint support and control
🤯 can be performed with little to no equipment!

😅The goal isn't movement here- it's holding the muscle contraction!

🤓Isometrics are basically the introvert of exercise-quiet, still and doing more work than you'd think!

🕺Our bodies are designed to MOVE.💃

😮When we become less active, our muscles begin to weaken and actually shrink- a process called muscle atrophy!!

⏩Muscle atrophy can happen surprisingly quickly, especially as we age.

😪Less muscle strength makes the everyday activities like climbing stairs, getting up from a chair, carrying groceries, or maintaining balance more challenging.

⏰And our muscles aren't the only thing affected from too much sitting.

🧱Long periods of time spent without movement causes our joints and and connective tissues to become stiff as well.

🔒Our bodies start to adapt to the positions we spend the most time in, which leads to decreased flexibility, limited mobility, and aches and pains.

🧴Motion Truly is Lotion!🧴

🔑Regular Movement + Stretching + Strengthening = Motion, Mobility and Momentum towards a Healthy and Independent Future

💚Call us at PT Professionals to be sure your body is adapting to MOVEMENT, not stillness.

👑SI Joint Basics Everyone Should Know:

🦴It stands for sacroiliac joint because it connects your sacrum (triangular bone at the base of your spine) to your ilium (which is the large, wing-shaped part of your pelvis.

🦴You have TWO SI joints- one on each side!

🦴It's designed for STABILITY and force transfer not for mobility. Too much movement or too little movement can both create problems.

🦴SI joints need strong glutes, core stability and good hip mobility.

🦴Pain felt in the dimples of your lower back is usually a good indicator of SI joint irritation.

🦴Prolonged sitting irritates these joints, as does uneven weight shifting.

🦴Most SI joint pain is related to irritation, inflammation or muscle imbalances.

🦴PT helps by assessing the way you walk, how you transfer weight, how your core activates and how your hips and spine work together.

🦴We implement targeted strengthening, posture and body mechanics education and address any muscle imbalances to reduce the stress placed on the SI Joints.

🦴When the SI joint becomes painful or unstable physical therapy focuses on finding WHY the joint is overloaded- not just chasing the pain.

👑The SI Joints may be small, but when they're unhappy they become the absolute drama queen of the pelvis and lower back. Don't wait on addressing issues- the sooner the better!

👧While physical therapy is often associated with athletes or post-surgical rehab for seniors, PT Professionals is reminding you that we also love to work with a younger demographic: kids!!

👦From newborns to teenagers, pediatric physical therapy is an
important tool to help children reach their full developmental potential through the power of movement!!

🎈Pediatric PT is a specialized branch of healthcare designed to help children navigate their world with independence and confidence during their early years of growth.

👣Movement is the primary way children interact with their environment!

🍼Physical therapy provides expert help for children who may be falling behind on gross motor milestones such as rolling over and sitting by themselves, crawling, pulling to stand, walking, running, and jumping.

🐣If you notice your child frequently trips, walks on their toes, moves awkwardly, or struggles with balance during play, they may benefit from physical therapy.

👟We help kids improve their body awareness and coordination through specialized movement plans!

⚽Yes, we also help young athletes with injuries from youth sports. Whether it's healing correctly from an ankle sprain, growing pains, or a soccer-field injury, PT can help. (Are we ready for Summer Soccer Season?!)

👏By focusing on proper mechanics and healing, PTs make sure that childhood injuries do not develop into lifelong physical challenges.

☎Call us at (585) 346-0060- a pediatric PT evaluation is a simple first step toward helping your kid move with confidence!

⚡Chronic pain is a real, whole-body experience that impacts roughly 1 in 5 adults.

👎That means millions of people are dealing with pain that persists for three months or longer, often significantly impacting their ability to work, maintain relationships, and enjoy daily activities.

🧠Pain is an output of the brain, and it's influenced by many factors, not just the body part that is or was injured!!

🚫When we stop moving out of fear or avoidance, the body can become even more sensitive over time.

⏬Guided movement helps to calm an overactive nervous system. Over time, graded exposure to movement can reduce how strongly the brain interprets signals as pain.

📢Research consistently demonstrates that physical therapy interventions can provide pain relief comparable to pharmaceutical approaches while avoiding potential side effects and dependency risks.

📈Additionally, the self-management skills patients develop during treatment provide lasting tools for maintaining their improvements.

🧠Even simply understanding how pain works reduces perceived threat. Pain science education is an evidence-based component of modern physical therapy.

✔Chronic pain is rarely one single issue- and PT addresses the system as a whole. Think desensitization, retraining neural pathways, pacing, progressive strengthening where needed...the list goes on and on!

🧩Chronic pain is complex, but it is NOT hopeless. With the right guidance, movement-based care is one of the most powerful tools we have!
