This one is personal.

For years I’ve been chasing fish up and down the coast — from SoCal bays to tournament days that didn’t go as planned. I’ve logged miles on the water, rigged and re-rigged kayaks, tested gear, watched weather patterns, studied tides, and constantly thought:

So I started building it.

New video up!

The plan was to find a bonefish in the San Diego Back Bay.

After three days of trying, that fish still evades me.

But that’s back bay fishing.

Instead of bonefish, the bay delivered a string of solid spotties, a surprise black croaker, a rare corbina… and my biggest halibut ever caught in the back bay, all from the kayak.

It’s been a minute, but we’re back on the water.

Chad and I spend the day fishing El Capitan Reservoir in San Diego County looking for largemouth bass. This is a lake I’ve fished a lot with mixed results, so expectations were low going in. The morning bite was solid, with fish willing to eat, and we spent the day rotating baits and breaking down structure to stay on them as conditions changed.

The afternoon bite slowed down and the wind kicked up for a bit, but we stuck with it and made the most of a really good day on the water. Calm mornings, changing conditions, and classic San Diego weather made it one of those trips that reminds you why you keep coming back.

Winter kayak fishing in San Diego never gets old.
