It's amazing what a difference a properly maintained bike can make.

The funny thing is most riders don't notice performance slipping away.

It happens little by little until one day they ride a freshly serviced bike and remember what it's supposed to feel like.

⚠️ This repair could have been avoided.

A bike came into the shop this week after the chain jumped past the largest cog and into the spokes.

The result?

❌ 1 spoke sheared completely off
❌ 7 additional spokes deeply damaged
❌ A $187 wheel repair bill

Even more concerning, this happened while riding. Had the wheel failed completely, it could have caused a crash and serious injury.

Most riders never see what’s happening inside a wheel… but they definitely feel it.

A wheel can be “straight” and still have uneven spoke tension. When some spokes are pulling way harder than others, the wheel is under constant stress — leading to broken spokes, wheels going out of true faster, and a rougher ride over time.

At the shop, we bring spoke tension into a balanced range within about 10% variance across the wheel. In plain terms: every spoke is sharing the workload evenly instead of a few doing all the heavy lifting.

Think of it like carrying a couch with friends — if one person is carrying most of the weight, something eventually gives out. A properly tensioned wheel spreads the load evenly so the wheel stays stronger, smoother, and more reliable.
