Lake Thompson Walleye Tournament

The 37th annual Lake Thompson Walleye Tournament, sponsored by Lake Preston Forward (Chamber) and the Lake Preston Fire Department, was held June 6-7, with 59 two-person teams. This marks the first time in the tournament’s history that the final standings ended in a tie. In accordance with tournament rules, the tie was broken based on which team checked in their fish first.
Cash totaling over $11,000.00 was distributed among the top eight placings for the two-day total weight, largest walleye on day one, largest walleye on day two, most weight day one, most weight day two, and 37th place, as this was the 37th year of the tournament. Over 884 pounds of fish were weighed over the two days.
1st Place: Corey Rehfeldt/Austin Ellingson - 38.04 pounds
2nd Place: Tanner Thompson-Moad/Brady Will - 38.04 pounds
3rd Place: Tanner Burkman/Seth Lubbers - 36.36 pounds
4th Place: Justin Skipper/Josh Bryant - 33.15 pounds
5th Place: Ethan Bartholow/Jacob Steffensen - 30.15 pounds
6th Place: Evan Koerner/Kurt Gutormson - 29.68 pounds
7th Place: Mason Barber/Carter Borchardt - 29.31pounds
8th Place: Sam Souter/Adam Souter - 27.98 pounds
Largest Walleye Day One: Tanner Thompson-Moad/Brady Will - 8.4 pounds
Largest Walleye Day Two: Sam Souter/Adam Souter - 8.0 pounds
Most Weight Day One: Tanner Thompson-Moad/Brady Will - 21.42 pounds
Most Weight Day Two: Corey Rehfeldt/Austin Ellingson - 19.38 pounds
37th Place: Camdyn Palmer/Al McLaughlin - 11.5 pounds

Because Schaeffer’s slough will not be available for fishing during this year’s tournament, we will be allowing all fishermen to fish the entire body of Lake Thompson, which includes south of the Oldham grade. Going south of 220th St is NOT RECOMMENED, travel at your own risk.

We are excited about this year’s tournament, as this will be the 37th annual Lake Thompson Walleye Tournament! We will be using the same pay-back formula based on 70 teams, as listed on the entry form.
The 2026 tournament will start by having a rules meeting Friday night, June 5th, with the fishing tournament on Saturday June 6th and Sunday June 7th.
If you are planning on entering, please fill out and send in your completed & signed entry form, either by mail or e-mail, along with payment (by check or Venmo) of $200 as soon as possible, as we are limiting the number of entries to 70 teams. When your entry is received and processed, you will be hearing from us with further details. If the tournament is full, your fee will be returned.
Early-bird Drawing: All teams entered on or before May 1st will be entered in a drawing, and the winner will win back their entry fee!!
Please take time to read through the tournament rules to help alleviate questions/controversy the night of the rules meeting.
