Youth & Junior Nationals / International Team Trials were this past week on our home course ! Athletes competing were racing for a chance to represent Team USA at the upcoming IBU Junior Cup, Junior Open European Championships, and the Youth & Junior World Championships events.

’s Abigail V. has officially QUALIFIED for all three events! 🎉🇺🇸 Huge congratulations for her achievement and for the opportunity to race for the US Biathlon Team for the very first time. She’ll be traveling to Latvia 🇱🇻, Finland 🇫🇮, and Germany 🇩🇪 throughout January and late February.

We had a few other past and present NYSEF biathletes racing on home soil too! Duncan V., River G. (GMVS), and Jenna S. (FKOC) all had solid performances over the week. It was great to see so many competitors in our backyard! ❄️

The biathlon crew spent the weekend over in Jericho, VT racing at Summer Nationals 🌞 The weather was pleasant, we had great competition, and came out of the weekend eager for the winter season!

River G. landed on top of the podium in the Sprint 🥇
Abby V reached first in the Sprint and second in the Pursuit 🥇🥈
Dolcie T had an 83.3% hit rate over the weekend and tied for second in the Sharp Shooter award 🥈

Our NYSEF XC team divided to compete in two races this past weekend; ADK Tour de Ski @ Tupper Lake & Section 7 Invitationals @ MVH.

Congratulations to all those who competed in both events, including a superstar performance from one of the fastest coaches at the ADK Tour de Ski…guess who?

Also, a big shout out to this family who came out to support their sister Ella in Tupper Lake! Thanks for helping to make this event spectacular.

This past weekend we saw ~600 xc ski racers on our home turf! Awesome racing for our group and the team.

Daven L placed 6th in the sprints! Many of our athletes had personal best results over the weekend. Highlight for the DEVO athletes was forerunning and closing the event, skiing almost 40 km!! Those are some tough kiddos. 💪

A fast and fun weekend of ski racing for the JRT & DEVO crews at Gore. Solid efforts all around and a few great performances which, more importantly, set this team up for a good training rhythm post holiday break. It was cold, but we had a great turnout from NYSEF and everyone skied FAST & had fun! ❄️

A few of our biathletes traveled out to Utah for Youth and Junior Nationals / YJWCH Trials event over the holidays.

Abby V and Jenna S, as well as NYSEF alum River G competed against the top youth and junior biathletes in the country. We saw some tough competitions with a variety of weather conditions; snow/rain, warm and slushy, and ending with a bluebird day! All in all our athletes raced their hearts out and gave it their all.

Day 1 our girls were among some of the only competitors with a clean shooting bout (meaning they hit all 5 of their targets) and placed 10th and 16th respectively.

Day 2 Jenna S tied with the best shooting of the day in the women’s youth category, with only 3 misses over 20 shots! Abby V placed 11th and Jenna S placed 14th.

Day 3 Abby V had her best shooting of the week with only 2 misses out of 10 shots and skyrocketed her way into 5th place with some speedy skiing, with Jenna landing in 15th.

All in all it was a great opportunity for our team to get together with the best biathletes in the country to kick off the race season and the new year! We may not have made any international teams this time around, but we learned a lot and are eager to get some more racing in this winter.

Today our DEVO XC crew geared up for a long distance ski, starting from Mt Van Hoevenberg and finishing at Scott’s Cobble. We celebrated the winter solstice, thanked Ullr the snow god for providing a white holiday season, and enjoyed each other’s company for a 7 mile (2+ hour) ski in the woods! Happy Holidays to all of our friends, families, coaches, and supporters! 🎄🎅🏻🎉

🚨 ICYMI 🚨 NYSEF Nordic athlete, Kai M, was named to Team USA for the Youth Olympic Winter Games in South Korea and recently finished up the competitions there.

This was Kai’s first international competition and the experience was “surreal,” the young Nordic Combined athlete says.

“Korea was fantastic!” she says. “The culture, the people, and the energy of the event were truly unforgettable. The support from the local fans and volunteers along with the camaraderie among the athletes made it an incredible atmosphere.”

Kai placed 16th in the Individual Normal Hill/4km Cross Country race, and placed 9th with her partner in the Mixed Team Normal Hill/4x3.3km Relay. She is currently prepping for Junior World Championships in Slovenia.

“I am super excited to get another chance to compete internationally this season.” We’re rooting for you Kai!! 👏

Some fun (non-race related photos) to give a shout-out to our NYSEF youth skiers! NYSEF DEVO athletes in touchy January conditions tackled the ADK Rail Trail from LP to SL! Our adventure ski included a coach rope tow and a celebration at Noris. Just about 15k, could you do that? 👏💪

Both our DEVO and JRT XC teams traveled to this past weekend to compete in some BKL and JNQ races. An amazing job from the full team in tough conditions both days — crowded courses for Saturday’s short 1 km classic manmade loop, and piling snow for Sunday’s 1.2 km loop skate races! Big thanks to the staff at Gore for hosting and managing the snow conditions!

• Age group wins from Abigail V, Daven L, Filippos K, Kai M, Liam S, Max F, Pippa D, Shane C, Tyler E, and Will P
• This weekend marked Pippa D’s third time ever on skate skis. Big props for jumping in to race!!
