Tonight isn’t about shoes. It’s simply about saying THANK YOU.

The support through this transition has been incredible. From Lake Placid and throughout the Adirondacks to those who visit us from other states, your kind words, conversations and continued support mean more than you know.

To everyone who supported The Fallen Arch in the past, everyone supporting us today, and everyone we’ll meet in the future — thank you.

And especially to Gail and Bob for building something worth carrying forward.

Past. Present. Future. A new chapter. The same legacy.

— Mike & Nicole

The Fallen Arch in Lake Placid, NY isn’t just about reading shoe specs — we actually put the shoes on, run in them, and learn how they FEEL.

Today it’s the ASICS Novablast 6.

Even standing still and rocking back and forth, you can see what the cushioning and rocker are doing underfoot. But that’s exactly why buying a running shoe isn’t as simple as reading a spec sheet online.

Your weight. Your foot strike. Your arch. Your stride. Your pace. Your goals.

They all change how a shoe feels.

That’s what makes The Fallen Arch different. Our staff includes different types of athletes with different feet, running styles and experiences — and we actually use the shoes we sell. We combine that firsthand experience with the knowledge and fitting experience passed down by longtime local expert Bob Tysen.

I took the Novablast 6 out for a run today, and now we can talk about more than stack heights, foam and numbers. We can tell you what it actually feels like underfoot.

Because the “best” running shoe isn’t the one with the best spec sheet.

It’s the one that works for YOU.

Stop into The Fallen Arch in Lake Placid and let us help you find it.

THIS is why The Fallen Arch is different.

Anyone can read a shoe spec sheet. Anyone can tell you the weight, drop, stack height, foam and what the manufacturer says a shoe is supposed to do.

But a spec sheet can’t tell you what that shoe is going to feel like on YOUR feet.

Your weight matters. Your arches matter. Your foot strike matters. Your pace matters. Your experience level matters. Even what you’re trying to accomplish matters.

Today Mike took the ASICS Novablast 6 out for a 5K and intentionally varied his pace from roughly 10:00/mile down to 8:30/mile.

At 200.8 lbs, he noticed a BIG difference.

Once his pace slowed beyond roughly 9:15/mile, the Novablast 6 started feeling sluggish to him. With the slower turnover, he felt himself sinking farther into the cushioning and pushing through the foam instead of taking advantage of its energy return.

Bring the pace up around 9:00/mile and especially toward 8:30/mile, and the shoe changed.

The quicker turnover meant less time sinking into the cushioning, and Mike could actually feel the shoe returning energy into the next stride instead of feeling like he was plowing through it.

But here’s the important part:

That’s ONE runner. One body weight. One foot strike. One experience.

Someone else could put on the exact same Novablast 6 and experience something completely different.

And THAT is why we do things differently at The Fallen Arch.

Our staff doesn’t just memorize shoe specs. We have athletes with different backgrounds, abilities and experience levels who actually use and test the products we sell.

Our staff is trained by longtime The Fallen Arch expert Bob Tysen, whose experience across running and endurance sports gives our team a tremendous resource. We also learn from the local athletes who shop and train with us. Their feedback from training, racing, trails and everyday miles helps us understand our footwear beyond what is printed on a box.

Mike brings a completely different perspective. Years of wearing military and law-enforcement boots, being a heavier guy who always needed comfortable footwear, and now nearly 40 pounds lighter, eating better, exercising, running and testing the shoes we carry.

That experience can be especially valuable for the person who walks through our door thinking, “I’m not really a runner.”

Maybe you’re heavier. Maybe you’re just getting started. Maybe you haven’t exercised in years. Maybe you simply want a comfortable shoe to walk in.

You’re exactly the kind of person we want to help.

And if you ask one of us a question and we don’t know the answer?

We’ll tell you we don’t know.

We will NEVER pretend just to make a sale. We’ll grab another member of our team who has the experience to answer your question.

Different feet. Different bodies. Different athletes. Different goals.

A spec sheet tells us what a shoe is made of.

Experience helps us figure out whether it’s the right shoe for YOU.

We don’t just sell shoes at The Fallen Arch — we wear them in the Adirondacks. We hike the ADKs in them. We put them to the test on the same rock, trails and mountains our customers do.

And today was a pretty special test.

Nicole and I hiked Catamount Mountain, and when we reached the top, I officially completed my Lake Placid 9er! Having Nicole beside me for the final mountain made this one mean even more.

Both of us wore the HOKA Speedgoat 7 with Vibram, and Catamount was exactly the kind of terrain that shows what this shoe can do.

The wide platform felt stable. The cushioning and support were great. But the Vibram traction on those rock sections was absolutely phenomenal. Climbing, scrambling and coming back down, these shoes GRIPPED. There were spots where having confidence in what was underneath our feet mattered, and the Speedgoat 7 delivered.

And Nicole was representing another favorite from The Fallen Arch — her Darn Tough socks made right here in Vermont.

That’s what we want The Fallen Arch in Lake Placid, NY to be about. We don’t just tell you what a shoe or piece of gear is supposed to do. We get out into the Adirondacks and use it ourselves.

Today the Speedgoat 7 earned its miles.

And I earned that last peak.

Lake Placid 9er — COMPLETE.

Pretty damn good day in the ADKs with my favorite hiking partner.

Big things start with small acts of kindness. 👟❤️

The Fallen Arch is proud to be an official drop-off location for the “Sneakers for Gulu” shoe drive through GotSneakers! We’ve already filled and emptied one full basket thanks to this incredible community, and we’re just getting started.

If you’ve got gently worn athletic shoes sitting in a closet, bring them in and give them a second life helping others around the world. Running shoes, gym shoes, hiking shoes, basketball shoes, and more can all make a real difference.

Every pair donated helps support a great cause while keeping usable shoes out of landfills. It’s amazing what a community can do when everyone chips in a little.

Stop by The Fallen Arch in Lake Placid and help us fill basket number two. 👊
