The clock is ticking... In less than 5 weeks, the residents of Lake Peekskill will have the 12th annual Lake Peekskill Flotilla on Saturday, July 4th, which also happens to be the 250th “birthday” of the USA.
The Flotilla will have a patriotic theme: decorate your watercraft in red, white, & blue.

A few years ago, the LPCA hosted a special meeting at the Lake Peekskill Community Center, and we had Pat Tyndall of Tyndall Septic as our guest. Pat told us all about the Fuji Clean septic system, and he answered our questions. Briefly, the Fuji Clean unit replaces the existing septic tank, but uses the existing septic fields. That may be an overly simple description, but it serves the purpose of this FB post. The “problem” with Fuji Clean installations in Lake Peekskill is access. How many homes are accessed by going up or down flights of stairs? A lot! So getting the heavy equipment in, the existing septic tank out, and the Fuji Clean unit in is quite a challenge on many properties in Lake Peekskill.
An alternative to Fuji Clean may be the IMET system, and Pat Tyndall will be joining us on May 23rd at 11 am at the community center to tell us all about it. Access is not a problem with IMET, and it’s less expensive than Fuji Clean, which is less expensive than replacing a septic system with a traditional septic system. Please join us!

We are about 10 weeks away from the 4th of July and Lake Peekskill Flotilla.

The flotilla began in 2015, when a group of friends decorated their boats and set out on an overcast 4th of July morning. The flotilla has grown and evolved since then, and it serves as a fun community event.

In 2026, we will have our 12th annual Lake Peekskill Flotilla on Saturday, July 4th, which also happens to be the 250th “birthday” of the USA. Please leave your feedback here:

We had a very good meeting last night with Highway Superintendent Shawn Keeler. As always, Shawn was helpful, answered questions, and showed what a true professional he is.
One of the topics that came up, aside from any highway department issues, was the lake. People may have observed that in the past week or two, the lake has looked very green and there were some concerns raised about that. In early spring, there are some species that can out-compete for nutrients. So, for example, green algae, or filamentous algae, can outcompete submerged aquatic vegetation for available nutrients because this submerged aquatic vegetation is just beginning to grow. There are some species of algae that prefer cool water, and they die off once the water temperature begins to increase. Just between yesterday, April 13th, and today, April 14th, there is a change in the appearance of the lake water. The surface temperature of the water may have increased to the point that cool water algae are beginning to die off. Diatoms, which are also microscopic, start to grow, and they can give the water a brownish tint. These are all normal, expected, and natural ebbs and flows in an aquatic ecosystem. We want to see a balanced level of good microscopic and macroscopic plants and invertebrates. Of course, we pay attention to it because any imbalances can become evident quickly. We are hopeful that the installation of the 3 ultrasonic devices (one of which has already been installed) will prevent the growth of cyanobacteria, which causes harmful algae blooms.
