The Lake Orion Hydra Dragons are busy at work, striving to make an impact in our city and beyond! The theme for the 2026–2027 Bio-Buzz season emphasizes **biodiversity**. With this in mind, the Hydra Dragons have immersed themselves in learning about—and teaching our students hands-on about—bees, pollen, gardening, and the essential role these natural interactions play in supporting healthy ecosystems and pollinating plants.

The Hydra Dragons also have the special privilege of working in downtown Lake Orion at Meeks Park, preparing an 8-foot-wide by 48-foot-long garden space for its new and special role in our community. This space will soon become the **Meeks Park Pollinator Garden**, a vibrant home for more than 100 Michigan-native pollinator plants.

The first step in this exciting process was preparing the garden space. Hydra Dragon students worked hard to w**d and clear the entire area, getting the garden ready for its next phase: **planting!**

The Hydra Dragons are excited to watch this garden grow and to see the positive impact it will have on our community, our pollinators, and future generations. What began as a garden space is becoming a living classroom—one where students can learn, serve, and make a meaningful difference in the natural world around them.

Did you know that literacy and STEM success are deeply connected? Strong literacy skills give students the confidence to make sense of complex information, solve problems, express their ideas, and find their voice. We are giving them the foundation to become scientists, engineers, innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders!!

❤️❤️Have you ever wondered why the Hydra Dragons are so passionate about books? A few years ago, our Hydra students created an impressive list of goals for bringing life and team originality to our community. One of those goals was to find book donations and fill as many of the Little Free Libraries throughout the Lake Orion community.❤️ The last of these middle school students have now moved on to high school but their impact and dream has stayed with us.❤️❤️

There is something so special about knowing that a book donated by one person can find its way into the hands of a child, a family, a neighbor, or someone who simply needs a little inspiration that day. Every book shared has the potential to open a new world, plant a new idea, or create a lifelong love of reading.

To our original Hydra Team members—thank you for dreaming big. Thank you for believing that students can make a difference. And thank you for leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire the next generation of Hydras. Your dreams became our inspiration, and your example reminds us that big change often begins with one small idea—and one open book. ❤️

Did you know there are more than 200,000 Little Free Libraries across 128 countries and 7 continents? Now THAT is an amazing global footprint! 🌍📖

But here in Lake Orion, we’re working on a footprint of our own! Every season, our Hydra Dragons and mentors make community service a priority, and one of our favorite ways to give back is through the POWER OF BOOKS! 📚✨

Why books? Because literacy and STEM go hand-in-hand! Reading helps build skills that our students use every day—from understanding word problems and problem-solving to spatial visualization and programming logic. 🧠💡🤖

So this season, we’re taking it one step further…

Our team recently built TWO BRAND-NEW LITTLE FREE LIBRARIES- They’ll be finding their new homes over the next few weeks, so keep your eyes peeled! 👀

🐉 One will be popping up at the Dragon Pocket Park off Baldwin
🐉 The other will be coming to the Orion Recreational Center

Because we believe that STEM starts with curiosity… and curiosity starts with a great book.
Let’s grow our community one reader, one book, and one Dragon footprint at a time. 🐉📚🌎

As another summer of volunteering comes to an end and the beginning of a new school year approaches for our team, we are filled with gratitude for the time we have spent serving together.

For the past four years, the Hydra Dragons have intentionally spent our summers serving our community through Forgotten Harvest—and every year, we leave with our hearts a little fuller. We are so impressed with the incredible volunteers who show up week after week, all year long, filling families’ vehicles with necessities, encouragement, smiles, and a reminder that their community cares.

For us, service isn’t just something you talk about—it’s something you experience.

~~It’s learning to lead by serving.
~~It’s recognizing the needs around you.
~~It’s choosing to make a difference.
~~And it’s discovering that even the smallest act of kindness can have a lasting impact.

~~~Here’s to raising a generation that doesn’t just ask “What can I get?” but proudly asks: “What can I do to help?” Thank you Forgotten Harvest!

In August 2026, Mentors & Students from FIRST Team 302, Oakview CyberDragons, and Lake Orion Hydra Dragons FTC #23623 teamed up to host an action-packed camp where students got hands-on with coding, building, problem-solving, and teamwork!

We loved watching their confidence, curiosity, and excitement for STEM grow throughout the week. Here’s to the next generation of innovators, engineers, and problem-solvers! 🌟🤖🚀
