After 33 incredible years, we are closing the doors of Basketball America β a place that has meant so much to so many in the Lake Orion and surrounding communities.
While he may have never claimed to be a basketball superstar, Jim did do something far more meaningful β he built a space where people could come together, compete, celebrate, and belong. Through basketball, volleyball, roller hockey, pickleball, birthday parties, open gyms, tournaments, and even a little wrestling along the way, Jim created something truly special.
For more than three decades, this wasnβt just a business β it was a second home βto him, to his family, and to our employees and customers. Open 9am to midnight, seven days a week for most of those years...and often even later. There were countless nights that stretched into early mornings, lights finally going out at 2am, only to start it all over again the next day. Thatβs not just dedication β thatβs a lifetime poured into a community.
If you add it all up, thatβs over 12,000 days, hundreds of thousands of hours, and immeasurable impact.
Jim also gave so much of himself as a coach, mentor, and steady presence for generations of kids and families. The lessons taught here went far beyond the court.
To our employees β past and present β thank you for your energy, your loyalty, and for helping bring this place to life every single day.
To our customers and families β thank you for trusting us with your time, your celebrations, and your memories.
And to the Lake Orion community β thank you for embracing Basketball America and making it what it became.
As Jim heads into a well-earned retirement, we celebrate everything that has been built here over the last 33 years. While this chapter is coming to a close, the memories, relationships, and impact will carry on far beyond these walls.
Thank you, Jim. Congratulations on an incredible run.
Our final day open for business will be May 2nd - more details to come soon!
