This weekend, the Oakland Grizzlies Warriors took part in the 7th annual Hendrickson Foundation National Hockey Festival. A truly special event, this annual festival brings together teams of athletes from across the nation in Warrior, Sled, Special, and Blind hockey, for an amazing weekend of exciting hockey. The Oakland Grizzlies had some unfinished business in Blaine, after their 2nd place finish at last year’s Hendy. Oakland came out strong and battled through to a 4-0 record this weekend, but the Pittsburgh Warriors were no easy opponent, giving Oakland a run of their money in bookend games over the weekend. On Sunday the two met for a rematch of their round robin game, with Mike Palmer, David Shepler, and Chris Salters scoring early to get the Grizzlies out in front. Momentum started to swing, however, and it took goalie Wayne Jameson holding off more than a few onslaughts by the Pittsburgh shooters in the 2nd and 3rd periods, helping lead Oakland to a 3-1 victory over Oakland in the championship game to earn their first ever Hendy title!
Thank you to everyone that has supported the Grizzlies throughout our first full season of competition, we are proud to close out the season and celebrate two Hendy championships alongside our brothers and sisters at Motor City Veterans Hockey!
Join us later this month at our inaugural War Bear Open, as we will our Warrior Classic and Hendy Championship teams while we continue our mission of helping Veterans!
