On Saturday the archery club lost a man who not only was one of the Winnebago Archery Club’s original founding members, but promoted the sport of archery all over the state of Iowa. John Carlson (pictured below ranging a target at one of many archery competitions he took me and several other young archers to). John was someone who had a true passion for archery, bowhunting, and trout fishing. He was a Hoyt Archery dealer for many years, and he had a wealth of knowledge. John would teach anyone who would listen everything he knew. I remember many times he would hit me in the head with an arrow if he saw me doing something wrong with my form. Then smile and laugh when I would execute that perfect shot and the arrow would land right in the X ring saying “see, told you I knew what I was talking about”. You will be truly missed John. We know you are at peace now with your loving wife Mary.

Due to a large amount of rain water getting into the range this summer, and it causing mold to grow on the floor, the archery range will not be opening this winter. Rain water getting in was due to things out of our control. The building the range is in just recently was purchased by someone new and they are aware of the mold issue. They have so many other things needed to be done to the building, that getting our range cleaned enough to be safe to be in just isn’t going to be possible by this winter. Please stay out of the range. While the weather is nice, John Carlson’s outdoor range is open to the public as always! Just please be respectful. We will hopefully be up and running again next year! For those willing to drive little further, Full Draw Archery Club up in Albert Lea, MN has a great indoor range. Thank you all for understanding!

Reminder that the Rod Mauer Memorial 3-D Shoot is next weekend. August 24-25 at Straight River Archers, Owatonna / Medford MN.

Set up will be Monday night the 19th starting at 5pm

Great course set with 30 Rinehart Targets, Tree Stands, Novelty Shoot and great food. NIce Folks, too! Hope to see you there!
