Sometimes the best lessons are passed down through a story.
During our Lake Mary Grand Opening, Professor Rolles shared a story about his father, Rolls Gracie.
One day, Rolls went to surf when a bully confronted him and challenged him to fight. Rolls used Jiu-Jitsu to protect himself and stop the aggression—effectively, calmly, and without unnecessary harm.
Later, that same young man came to Rolls’ academy because he wanted to learn what Rolls had used against him. In time, the two became best friends.
That is the true purpose of Jiu-Jitsu: not to create bullies, but to give children the confidence and skills to stand up for themselves, control a dangerous situation, and choose peace whenever possible.
After hearing the story, our students learned practical steps they can use when facing bullying—how to stay aware, speak confidently, seek help, protect themselves, and respond without becoming the aggressor.
This is Gracie Jiu-Jitsu: self-defense, confidence, character, and lessons passed from one generation to the next.
Rooted in 100+ years of tradition.
