Will the weekend be this windy?? I don't think so. Today was always going to be the most windy day of the 4, but we will carry an above average breeze into tomorrow and the weekend, that's for sure.

Friday and Saturday, look for gusts up to 30mph or so, with lesser gusts around 20-25mph on Sunday.

πŸ’¨ We've been getting every bit of the 37mph projected gusts for today, and over the last hour, my go to weather station eastward across from Main Lake Market clocked one gust of 40mph and another of 45mph.

To whomever owns that gauge, I salute you, because it's rare to find a residential gauge that accurately captures wind speeds. 🫑

☣️ The good news: water quality and clarity remain great, and any HAB threat remains at bay. That's saying something, since neighboring Budd Lake and Mountain Lake are both experiencing algae blooms and are under advisory status. This is the condition which would have closed some beaches at Lake Hopatcong, including the state park, and the same status that caused relative hysteria in 2019 when residents and visitors packed Hopatcong High School for HAB meetings.

Per Princeton Hydro, this May is the first time clarity depth is back over 2 meters since 2018, and yes, in turn, we also have the worst weeds in a long, long while.

Weeds harvested this year are at record levels, and harvesters have finally made it to Crescent Cove this week. Also, the commission plans to have 2 more harvesters next year.

I get it. The weeds are literally choking out lake front residents. The trade off has indeed been improved water conditions lake-wide. Hopefully two more harvesters will help to eradicate the weeds earlier next year.

It's this area of showers through 11am that stands between us and a mainly-precip-free midday & afternoon.

It's just any isolated pop up shower we may need to contend with later on.

Happy almost Friday! Longer one today, because we've actually got some weather to talk about! Clouds, humidity, and pretty windy conditions will be the name up the game through the first half of today, with an additional period of rain possible later this morning, and maybe another heavy shower/storm this afternoon (a lot like we saw yesterday). Skies should clear this evening, probably giving us a great sunset sky today.

Friday, we may start with a peek of sun, but clouds return as a system misses us to the south. We'll be much less humid tomorrow, but still have that breeze around. And fret not, as the sun will again return for the afternoon!

And then, the weekend and first day of Summer Sunday πŸ₯³ Mostly sunny, mid to upper-70s, low humidity, and worth taking note of, another breezy sat-sun. Anytime you get those sustained winds showing 20+, and gusts close to 30mph, we'll see small whitecaps on main lake, trees rustleing a bunch, and my wind chimes going crazy.

Moving into Monday, I was hoping for a big weather day as a low pressure system tracks across the area. This system currently looks to be tracking further north, and may "only" produce a showery warm front then cold front combo Monday and Monday night. The system has the gusto to put down 1.50-2.00in somewhere across the mid-Atlantic/Northeast (this would be the "big weather day"), but I will still happily take my first thoughts of 0.60-1.20in🀞 Given the all day cloud cover and possible rain, I wouldn't be surprised to see highs struggle to 70 with humid conditions.

The sour weather is short lived as we bounce back to some pretty perfect conditions for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Make it a good one!

Morning all. Layup forecast for today with mostly sunny skies, no humidity, and temps into the lower 70s

Tomorrow, could start with a round of showers in the morning. We'll keep a good bit of clouds, but I think it's a dry afternoon. We'll need to watch for a pop-up storm for late afternoon or evening. Looking pretty hit/miss though.

Thursday, even more cloud cover, and you'll notice the SPC has us in a 2/5 for severe weather again. Keep in mind, they carve out large areas of storm favorability, so while only 1 of the last 3 threats really delivered to our immediate region, areas near by did experience severe weather all 3 times. I think that's the case again here. Timing looks to be earlier than usual, maybe 10a-3p, where skies may actually clear late in the day. To me, this looks like another situation where things fizzle as they make it to us. Not a wash out, but a weather monitoring day, for sure. We'll check back in on this tomorrow.

And then Friday and the weekend, another forecast for the masses! Low to No humidity, temps in the mid to upper 70s, and largely more sun than clouds. 😎 That breeze will be pretty high again though, especially Friday and Sunday.

This fantastic, low humility weather is great for a lot of things, and that includes Triathlon training! We're now under 90 days away from the Lake Hopatcong Sprint Triathlon, and there are still spots available.

Not up for a full tri? There are aqua-bike and relay options as well! Can't participate? This is a very cool event to check out, with all the transitions taking place at Crescent Cove Beach Club.

πŸŽ‡ The Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club fireworks on the lake are coming up in less than 2 weeks, Friday June 26 around 9:10-9:15pm. The question will inevitably come up: where's the best place to watch??

1. The Lake! If you can find a boat or house in the shown area, that'll be your best bet.

2. Mount Arlington Beach is one of the best free spots, but you'll need to get there early, and be prepared to park pretty far away.

3. The Jefferson House runs a Fireworks Buffet for a fee. Check their FB. 973-663-3063
Buffet served from 6 to 9:30pm. Adults $55, children 5-12 are $25

4. Modick Park in Hopatcong. I've heard mixed reviews about this spot, some that you can see them, some that the trees are too high.

5. They shut Brady Bridge down for the event, but keep in mind: you are 2.5 miles away. You can see them, but barely, and you cannot even hear them. If you choose this spot, just be aware, they're off in the distance. The best part about this spot is watching all the boats try to squeeze back under the bridge after the show.

* Hopatcong State Park is closed

You can let me know if I'm wrong, but I feel like the consensus typically is, let it rain mid-week, but the best weeks are those bookended with greatness. That's exactly what we have this week.

Today and tomorrow, it's not often you get no humidity, so if that's your thing, certainly take advantage of it. We'll have mostly sunny skies, breezy conditions at least for today, with high temperatures in the low 70s.

Humidity ticks up for Wednesday with more cloud cover and the outside chance for a shower. Thursday, we turn the humidity up to a 4/5 and gain clouds through the day. We will see a cold front move through with a better chance for a line of thunderstorms during the afternoon or evening after a day getting into the low to mid '80s.

But then, check out Friday and the weekend. That wind starts to shift out of the West-Northwest causing humidity to drop off, and we get back to sunny skies with temps in the mid '70s and breezy conditions. Not a bad forecast for the start of summer on Sunday!!

Happy Monday, Everyone! 😎
