🌧️ It was another solid summer soaker with locally 1.40-1.75 inches of rain this morning. A basin representative 1.61 inches raised the lake back up about 1.92 inches from 9.10ft to about 9.26ft.

This time, much higher totals were found over Northeast NJ.

It's a quick one today as I gear up for the Lake Hopatcong Triathlon, but we've got an absolutely great one today. More clouds move in this evening, and tonight, showers and potentially a period of heavy rain are possible. The NWS Flood Watch covers Morris County and points South, with that area of heavy rain most likely to impact central any southern Jersey.

Sunday has a gloomy, dreary start, but if you can hold out until late afternoon or evening, things should improve.

🌀There's a Hurricane on the horizon?? General odds are yes, seeing as though 95%+ of all Category 3 hurricanes occur in August, September, and October, and we have literally not seen a single Atlantic hurricane this year. When/if one forms, it will be the latest first hurricane formation in the Atlantic since continuous monitoring began in 1966.

Oh, you thought odds for seeing one here? Oh yeah, probably not. The GFS had a wild ride yesterday, but we know better to trust anything that big more than 3-5 days out, right? It's not even like there's something tracking across the Atlantic worth watching. We're looking for something to maybe take shape around Cuba or the Bahamas or off the Florida Coast around September 20-23.

That's about as detailed as anyone can be at this point, and frankly, it's peak hurricane season, so even that isn't saying much more than should already be expected.

Instead, here's some not so bad ideas and items as the nights get longer and the season starts to change:

🔦 Power & Light: Check your flashlights and portable battery backups now.
🩹 First Aid: Give your first aid supplies a quick inventory look.
⛽ The Generator: Don’t wait for the blackout to find out it won't crank. I try to start and run mine every 3–6 months to keep it fresh.
🌊 Sump Pump? There’s never a bad time to test it before the basement floods.
🌳 The Trees: Big trees around the house? It’s costly, yes, but routine trimming saves so much trouble in the long run. I just had mine done last month and sleep a lot better during high winds.
📻 Weather Radio: Grab a NOAA weather radio to stay informed if cell towers go down. (Pro-tip: VHF marine radios can double as a weather receiver. I picked up 2 off Facebook Marketplace for cheap!).
🥫 Food & Water: Check on your pantry supplies.
🍷 The Secret Weapon: Make sure the liquor cabinet is fully stocked. This one's a joke, but at the same time... you do you! 😉

It's another nice looking 5 day stretch, with of course, one wrinkle. Today and tomorrow look very nice with periods of sun & clouds, temps in the mid to upper 70s, but low humidity will give way to higher humidity tomorrow. Clouds will also be on the increase later Saturday as some showers work in for overnight.

Much of the first half of Sunday does look unfortunately dreary and wet, but if we're lucky, we could see some clearing for the afternoon and evening, so 🤞

And then, Monday-Tuesday... Has there been a start to the week that hasn't looked good? Not many, I'm sure, and this will be another one; Cooler, little to no humidity, and mostly sunny.
