The Best vacation souvenir?
Life-saving skills.

This weekend, I had the opportunity to travel and work with a family who made water safety a priority during their vacation.

Karson is 4½ years old and absolutely loves the water but only when wearing her life jacket. Without it, much of her confidence disappeared. Instead of focusing on what she couldn’t do, we built on the skills she already enjoyed and felt successful doing independently.

Through games, encouragement, and plenty of practice, her confidence started to grow.

In just two days, one eager little swimmer made a whole lot of progress. Karson is now:

✅ Jumping into the pool independently
✅ Swimming with her face in the water without goggles
✅ Rolling onto her back independently
✅ Rolling back to her tummy to continue swimming and find the wall for safety

The best part? I wasn’t just working with Karson. I spent time helping the entire family understand how to support her progress (and her little sister’s) while creating safer habits around the water.

Because swim lessons are about more than learning to swim. They’re about building confidence, creating safer habits, and opening the door to a lifetime of memories in and around the water.

I’m so proud of Karson and grateful her family trusted me to be part of their journey. I can’t wait to see them again this fall.

There’s something special about a community coming together to learn how to save lives.

For over 20 years, my passion has been helping people stay safe in and around the water. But safety doesn’t stop at the pool. Emergency preparation is one of the layers of protection against drowning. Empowering our community with how to respond with lifesaving skills like CPR is important and I’m incredibly grateful to be part of opportunities like this.

A huge thank you to Kaylee for volunteering her time to teach, and to Maggie at Elite Medical Training Academy for partnering with me to bring these free CPR classes to our community.

As I looked around the room today, I couldn’t help but smile. We had children, parents, grandparents, and community members from all walks of life spending part of their Sunday learning a skill they hope they’ll never have to use but one that could one day save a life. Each person showed up for their own reason, but all left with greater confidence and knowledge.

Days like today remind me how fortunate I am to call this “work,” and to do it alongside incredible people who share the same passion for making a positive impact in our community.

Missed today’s class? We have ONE final FREE CPR Class of the summer!

What an honor it was to speak with the London Bridge Rotary Club during !

Moments like these matter because every time I share, someone shares a story back. And that’s how awareness grows.

One thing that really stuck with people today: Children can and will find ways to access water, including through dog doors.

Kids are naturally drawn to water. Whether it’s climbing over fences, slipping through unlocked doors, or using anything nearby to gain access… if there’s a way, they’ll find it.

Drowning happens fast and it’s often silent. But the more we talk about it, the more we can prevent it.

Thank you for giving me the space to educate, advocate, and continue working toward the goal of zero childhood drownings in our community!

I got to kick off in the BEST way… with my neon pink twin 💕

This moment with Addy totally set the tone for the week, and I just loved it.

Moments like this are fun, but they’re also a time to highlight that what your child wears in the water matters.

Bright, high-visibility colors consistently perform best in both pools and lakes.
Think: neon pinks, oranges, yellows, and greens.

Colors to be cautious with: low-contrast tones like blues, purples, whites, and creams as they tend to blend in and disappear underwater.

Keep in mind, visibility can change depending on water clarity, pool or lake bottom color, lighting, and surface movement. I always recommend testing swimsuits underwater so you can see for yourself what stands out best.

The goal is simple:
make your child as easy to see as possible at all times.

Choosing a high-visibility swimsuit is helpful but active, engaged adult supervision will always be the most important layer when it comes to keeping our little ones safe in and around the water.

What an INCREDIBLE way to end the week!

I just wrapped up lessons with twins Revna and Hazel, and it has been so rewarding watching each of them grow in their own way. Even though they are the same age, what clicks first for each of them is completely different. Every child has their own pace, their own fears, and their own path to confidence in the water.

Earlier this week, I highlighted Revna as she worked on her breath control and learning to stay calm when she loses her balance. From the very beginning, we have been building that foundation for both girls so they can stay calm and in control when things do not go as planned.

Hazel, on the other hand, quickly excelled at going underwater and pushing off the bottom early on in our lessons. This is exactly why I love having a wide range of training and techniques as an instructor. There is not a single approach or curriculum that works for every child, and being able to meet them where they are makes all the difference.

But here is what made this week really exciting…

Even though they each started with different strengths, both girls reached a major water safety milestone.

One of the first and most important skills I teach is being able to calmly breathe while back floating until help arrives. From there, we begin building toward the bigger goal, because if a child can safely reach the edge and get out of the pool, that is always the safest place to be.

That is where this next progression comes in. Simple arm movements that allow them to move through the water while staying on their back, calm, breathing, and in control.

And this week, BOTH girls achieved it.

I am so proud of the progress they have made so far. These are the moments that never get old. 💙

If you want a feel good moment today, watch Hazel achieve this life-saving skill.

🚨 We’re less than TWO weeks away!

The first FREE Community CPR class of the season is happening next Friday in partnership with Elite Medical Training Academy!

I couldn’t be more excited to kick off with this amazing opportunity for our community.

Emergency Preparation is one of the 5 Layers of Protection and knowing how to respond in an emergency could be the reason a life is saved.

Although this is not a certification course, you will still gain hands-on practice, along with the knowledge and confidence to act when it matters most.

One of the most overlooked risk areas in a pool… the steps.

It may surprise a lot of people, but it makes sense if you think about it. The stairs are where kids feel the most comfortable. It’s where they play, explore, and build confidence. However, one small misstep can lead to them slipping beneath the surface into water that’s too deep to touch.

And in that moment, what matters most is whether they have gained the skills to properly respond.

At the earliest stages of learning to swim, it’s about building the foundation of self-rescue skills, including:

💧Submerging with breath control
💧Finding the bottom
💧Pushing off and moving toward safety
💧Returning to a standing position

These skills help a child stay calm, orient themselves, and regain control in an unexpected moment.

And often, what parents see during this stage looks like play. I intentionally bring out their favorite toys to encourage them to try something they may feel uncomfortable with at first.

Children learn best through play, through positive experiences that engage their senses and reduce fear.

So while it may look like play from the outside, what’s really happening is the foundation of water safety being built through repetition, skill development, and growing confidence in their ability to do hard, sometimes scary things.

🚨 2016 SUMMER REGISTRATION UPDATE!

I am truly humbled by the response since opening summer registration.

Last year, I had the privilege of serving 62 families over summer. And in less than two weeks, I’ve already had a 12% increase in interest. That kind of trust and support means the world to me.

My goal has always been to provide the highest quality experience for every swimmer and family I work with and that means making sure I’m not overcommitting.

At this time, I have temporarily paused summer registration for At-Home Swim Lessons, and the form is no longer live.

I will be sending a notification out via email once I know what openings I have for summer (May, June, and July). If you’d like to be the first to know, join the email list here:

Last night, I had the opportunity to present to members of the Professionals Club of Havasu.

The timing couldn’t have been more meaningful as we recognize April as Autism Acceptance Month and look ahead to Water Safety Month in May.

It was a special evening getting to educate fellow business owners and professionals about water safety and drowning prevention. One of the things I always find impactful is sharing statistics that often catch people off guard to help bring awareness in a way that really sticks.

What made the evening even more meaningful were the conversations that followed. My presentation sparked some truly powerful side discussions, where people opened up and shared personal stories of near drownings, as well as their own desires to become stronger, more confident swimmers.

This is exactly why I love what I do. Those moments of connection remind people they’re not alone and reinforce that water safety and becoming a strong, confident swimmer is a goal worth pursuing at any age.

I’ve included a few of the statistics I shared to the group in the comments below. I’d love to hear about any that stand out to you as well.

This networking group is incredibly inspiring and full of knowledgeable, driven individuals. I genuinely look forward to our monthly meetings each time. If you’re interested in getting involved or learning more, check out The Professionals Club of Havasu page.
