ROCHELLE
📍 Indiana
🏃‍♀️ Favorite race memory: SHE Power (mostly for the cake at the finish line 🍰)
🌟 Current goal: Run her first full marathon

Rochelle found Average Athlete at the Donut 5K—and honestly, finding this community at a race centered around donuts feels very on-brand.

She’s been lifting weights for about six years and running for the last three. What started as a way to move her body has become something she’s genuinely passionate about.

And she’s been busy.

This spring, Rochelle crossed the finish line of her first half marathon —a huge milestone and proof of how far she’s come in just a few years.

Then this past weekend, she added another first to the list: standing on a podium!

Rochelle placed 2nd in her age group at the Diva race 5k, earning her first age-group award and proving that all those miles are paying off. 💪

Naturally, those accomplishments have her looking toward what’s next: a full marathon.

Because that’s the thing about runners. You finish one goal and immediately start wondering what’s possible after that.

One race that will always stand out to Rochelle is the .run race. She loved the energy, the atmosphere, and yes... the cake waiting at the finish line. She’s sad to see it go, but grateful she got to be part of it while it was here.

These days, Rochelle’s bucket list is simple: keep getting stronger, keep improving, chase new PRs, and learn how to race smarter with every mile.

And her advice is something every new runner needs to hear:
If you’re thinking about becoming a runner, just do it. Don’t overthink it.

Three years ago, Rochelle decided to give running a chance, and she says it was one of the best decisions she’s ever made. Not just physically, but mentally too.

Her reminder for all of us?
Get out there and run your stress away.

Rochelle is Average Athlete energy through and through—showing up, putting in the work, celebrating the wins, and proving that you don’t have to be a lifelong runner to fall in love with the sport.

It just evolves.

The sport may change.
The goals may change.
The athlete is still there. 🔥

DEMETRIUS
📍 Indiana
🏃‍♂️ Fave event: The 4x100m relay
🌟 Current goal: Stay active, train for another Indy Mini, and get back to competing at his college alumni meet

Demetrius found Average Athlete at the Indy Mini Expo this year—and stopped by for some good conversation… which is honestly an Average Athlete tradition at this point.

His athletic background runs deep. Growing up, football was always the main sport, and eventually he went on to play at Muskingum University in Ohio. But once a high school coach convinced him to give track and field a shot? That was it.

Hooked.

And honestly, it makes sense. Demetrius loves everything about relays—the speed, the teamwork, the pressure, the handoffs. His favorite event to run has always been the 4x100, while the 4x400 remains his favorite to watch. (Elite spectator event.)

These days, he’s still keeping that competitive energy alive through co-ed volleyball, training for another Mini Marathon, and gearing up for indoor track season. Because once an athlete… always an athlete.

One of his biggest goals right now is simple:
Run the Mini healthy, in shape, and feeling good again. And eventually? Get back out there competing at his college alumni meet.

And his advice is something every Average Athlete needs to hear:
Never let age—or outsiders—tell you what you can’t do.

Demetrius is proof that being an athlete doesn’t end when school does. It just evolves. Different season, different sport, different goals—but the competitor is still there.

We’re glad you stopped by the booth, Demetrius. Keep showing up, keep competing, and keep proving the fire never really leaves. 🔥

Turns out you don’t need to be elite.
Just find something that works for you.
That’s it. That’s the secret.

And if you’re not sure where to start... get a dog. 🐾
can confirm.

STEPHANIE
📍 Indiana
🐾 Fave activity: Trail runs (with a full dog squad)
🌟 Bucket list: 50 states before 50 (39 down at 39…no pressure 😏)

Stephanie found Average Athlete the way many great things happen—through friends and family. (Shoutout Timmy.) And it clicked instantly. Because she gets it: most of us aren’t pros—we’re just out here juggling jobs, families, responsibilities… and still choosing to show up and move our bodies anyway.

Her story didn’t start in sports. She’ll tell you she was a full-on music kid—marching band, choir, music major. Running wasn’t even on the radar.

Then came real life. A full-time job. And Pongo—a severely overweight black lab who needed a lifestyle change. So Stephanie started running… first for him, then for both of them. After he lost the weight, they kept going—and eventually found their way to the trails.

Pongo may have passed, but the miles didn’t stop. These days, Stephanie’s still out there—now running with a crew of FOUR ridgebacks and carrying that same energy forward.

When it comes to favorite races, she’s got range.

Trail side: Tecumseh Trail Challenge—beautiful, brutal, and stacked with top-tier aid stations.

Road side: Indy Monumental—a hometown favorite she’s run and paced, built on months of hot summer miles.

What’s she training for right now?
She says it’s a secret… 👀 so we’ll just assume it’s something big.

And outside of running? She’s chasing a different kind of finish line—visiting all 50 states before 50. Sitting at 39 states at age 39… she’s right on track.

Stephanie’s advice is simple and hits home:
Have fun. Fitness should be fun. You don’t have to be elite—just find something that works for you and do it.

Stephanie is Average Athlete energy through and through—real life, real responsibilities, real effort… and still finding joy in the miles…especially with a pack of red-haired ridgebacks!

About 9 years ago, Timmy was trying to figure out what life looked like after addiction and homelessness.

He saw a flyer for a running group called Back on My Feet and decided to show up.

What greeted him wasn’t judgment.

It was a hug.

That hug introduced him to community, and community changed his life.

Today, Timmy is one of the biggest champions of the Indianapolis running community—connecting people, hyping runners, taking race photos, and helping others find their place.

His advice is simple:
“Find your community. We are not meant to do this life alone.”

TIMMY
📍 Indiana
🌭 Fave activity: Hot dog eating. Competitive, casual, race day, Sunday afternoon—whatever the format may be.
🌟 Current mission: Help make Indy one of the best running communities in the country.

Some people come into your life and immediately feel like community. That’s Timmy.

He first found Average Athlete at a race and connected with what the brand is all about - making movement, community, and athletic goals feel approachable for everyone.

And honestly? Timmy embodies that best.

About 9 years ago, Timmy got sober from he**in after spending 6 years homeless. Trying to figure out what life looked like next, he saw a flyer for and decided to show up.

What greeted him wasn’t judgment. It was a hug.
And he says that simple hug changed his life.

That moment introduced him to community. From there, he started running, kept showing up, and built a life rooted in connection. Somewhere along the way, he became deeply woven into the Indianapolis running scene and is a person so many people now know and love.

Today, Timmy works with helping connect neighborhoods, run clubs, volunteers, and organizations across Indy. His goal? Help make Indianapolis one of the best running communities in the country.

He’s also one of the best race photographers. If you’ve raced here, there’s a good chance Timmy has captured you mid-run. He was probably wearing a hot dog hat or Average Athlete gear, hyping up runners along the course.

He’s completed IRONMAN Lake Placid, but these days his goals are less about crossing a finish line and more about building community, creating connections, and helping others find their place.

And we need to discuss the hot dogs.
While some runners chase podiums, Timmy proudly chases perfectly grilled hot dogs. Respect.

But underneath the hot dogs and good vibes is someone with a deeply important message:
Find your community. We are not meant to do this life alone.

Timmy is pure Average Athlete energy—showing up for people, making everyone feel welcome, and proving that community can completely change a life.

Timmy, thank you for all you do for the Indy running community!
