Weekend recap! I know it's a little late but it's here now - unfortunately there isn't much to talk about!
Friday practice got off to a slow start, Jon was just getting used to riding again after being off a motorcycle for an entire calendar year. The target was to go after speed in the first Qualifying session, but after the tragedy that happened in the Stock 1000 session where Scott Briody crashed and passed away, our Q1 was cancelled.
I didn't know Scott, but to have that happen at the event we were at, really hit home and had us all very emotional. Our thoughts go out to the loved ones he left behind.
Saturday morning was Q2, Jon's last remaining chance to make the qualifying cut off for the race. He was actually fairly nervous he wouldn't go fast enough at his home track! The pace of the front runners was blisteringly fast. Thankfully with some guidance from his wonderful pit crew, he was able to go just fast enough to make the show.
Then came the race, Jon was gridded in 24th and excited just to be riding again! He got a good start and was finally starting to feel fast and dropping time, but unfortunately on the 5th lap the rear piston in the motor broke and he had to retire. The same thing happened last year at this event, even in the same corner. To say he is dejected is an understatement.
We want to thank everyone who came by our pits to say hi and give encouragement, always fun to see familiar faces! Very cool to also catch up with old friends we haven't seen in a long time.
The biggest thank you goes out to the pit crew of Katie Champ, Paul Jensen, and Jennifer Evan Jensen - Jon couldn't do this without your amazing support! One of these years we'll finish a race and get to celebrate!
