The Scuba Professor is now accepting applications for an upcoming Instructor Trainer Course.

Becoming an Instructor Trainer is about more than earning another professional rating. It means developing the knowledge, judgment, and leadership needed to prepare instructors who can safely teach, evaluate, and certify the next generation of divers.

The course will focus on:

✅ Developing and mentoring instructor candidates
✅ Evaluating teaching presentations and in-water performance
✅ Applying training standards consistently
✅ Conducting instructor-level programs
✅ Providing effective feedback and remediation
✅ Managing quality assurance and professional risk
✅ Building a successful instructor-development program

This course is designed for experienced scuba instructors who are ready to move beyond teaching students and begin developing other dive professionals.

Prerequisites: Current instructor certification, active teaching status, required experience, and approval for enrollment

Class size will be limited to allow individualized coaching and evaluation.

When Jacques Cousteau innovated the Aqualung for scuba diving, IDEA and the FSDA played a vital role in the “unlocking” of the underwater world as it transitioned from Skin Diving to Scuba Diving. Formed in 1952 alongside the FSDA, the ‘International Diving Educators’ formed an association for the sole purpose of unifying global scuba leaders and developing the basis of Recreational Scuba Standards. This enabled the sport to take shape internationally and be taught safely. This gave rise to the Scuba Instructor and the Industry as a whole - the rest is History. Partners at IDEA later formed other celebrated agencies such as NAUI and PADI. There is a lot of heritage at IDEA and the FSDA that we are proud of. It’s time to get back to basics. We are the First Scuba Agency since 1952, American owned and operated with a business model that puts instructors first, just like in the beginning.
