Chile is one of the longest north-to-south countries on Earth, stretching about 4,270 km (2,650 miles) from its northern border with Peru to its southern tip near Cape Horn.

If you could pick up Chile and lay it across the North Atlantic, it would be long enough to span the shortest distance between Canada and Spain.

Despite covering more than 38 degrees of latitude, Chile is remarkably narrow, averaging only about 177 km (110 miles) wide. This unique shape gives the country an incredible range of climates and landscapes, from the Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on Earth, to glaciers, fjords, and subpolar forests in Patagonia.

The Bering Strait, which separates Russia and Alaska, is only about 85 km (53 miles) wide at its narrowest point.

For more than a century, engineers and politicians have proposed building a bridge or tunnel across it, creating the first permanent land connection between Asia and North America. The two Diomede Islands, located midway across the strait, could serve as natural stepping stones for such a crossing.

Most modern proposals favor a tunnel, as Arctic sea ice, extreme weather, and seismic activity would make a bridge difficult to maintain. The crossing itself is not the biggest challenge; the greater obstacle is the lack of transportation infrastructure on both sides. Thousands of kilometers of new roads and railways would need to be built through some of the most remote regions on Earth.

Supporters argue that a Bering crossing could link the transportation networks of Eurasia and North America, allowing freight and passengers to travel continuously by land between the continents. In theory, it could make overland journeys from London to New York possible. Despite recurring interest since the early 1900s, the immense cost, engineering challenges, and geopolitical complexities have prevented the project from moving beyond the planning stage.

✨ Fireflies Are Disappearing
The magical glow of fireflies may be fading from our world.
Scientists warn that firefly populations are declining due to habitat loss, pesticide use, climate change, and increasing light pollution. These threats disrupt the dark environments they need to survive and reproduce.
More than just beautiful insects, fireflies help control pests and indicate the health of local ecosystems. Their disappearance is a warning sign for nature as a whole.
By protecting habitats, reducing unnecessary nighttime lighting, and supporting sustainable practices, we can help keep these living lights shining for future generations. 🌟πŸͺ²

Argentina's famous "werewolf law" has its roots in centuries-old folklore.
During the 19th century, legends surrounding the lobizΓ³n (a werewolf-like creature from Argentine folklore) became intertwined with European traditions that claimed the seventh consecutive son in a family was destined to become a werewolf. Similar beliefs held that a seventh consecutive daughter could become a witch.
According to the superstition, the curse could be prevented if the child had a person of great power as a godparent. In 1907, a family asked President JosΓ© Figueroa Alcorta to become the godfather of their seventh son. He accepted, beginning a presidential tradition that continued for decades.
In 1974, President Isabel PerΓ³n formally codified the practice through Law 20.843. Under the law, the President of Argentina could become the honorary godparent of the seventh consecutive son or seventh consecutive daughter in a family. Eligible children also received a commemorative medal and educational benefits.
Today, the tradition still exists, making Argentina one of the few countries where a centuries-old werewolf legend directly influenced national law.
