A little Texas heat wasn’t going to stop this group! The Texas Youth Hunting Program -TYHP brought some great hands-on lessons, plenty of knowledge, and a lot of interaction that kept our youth group engaged from start to finish.

Thank you to Andy Sobotka, TYHP Volunteer Huntmaster, Dale and Eric too! They covered shooting from a ground blind and tree stand, shot placement, bowhunting ethics, and what it takes to make a responsible decision in the field.

The Texas Youth Hunting Program (TYHP) partners with Texas Wildlife Association and Texas Parks and Wildlife to provide 200+ youth hunts each year. Through these hunts, young hunters learn safe, legal and ethical hunting while gaining hands-on experience in the outdoors.

If you missed this one, don’t worry! We’ll be partnering with TYHP again in spring 2027 for another informative session and fun shoot. For more info: https://tyhp.org/

Special thanks to Bob Barnette, Field Operations Coordinator (North Texas), and Andy and the entire crew of volunteers making the trip and investing their time in the next generation of hunters.

Great shooting, good food and a lot learned. That’s a pretty good Saturday!

Several of you reached out for the scores from the North American Grand Slam. Great shooting all around, and thanks to everyone who came out!

The North American Grand Slam brought the heat and competition! 65 shooters from across Texas, plus AJ all the way from New York, came ready to put their skills to the test. 💪🎯

Sponsored by Scheels. This was a full day of competition, with the Scheels archery team getting in on the action and putting arrows downrange with the rest of the field. Congrats to all of our raffle winners who won Scheels gear!

Great day of shooting, tough competition, and plenty of arrows hitting targets. A huge THANK YOU to every shooter who made the trip and helped make the Grand Slam one heck of a day!

And to everyone who helped make it happen behind the scenes, we appreciate you. Thanks Cedric for the amazing BBQ! And many thanks to several of our friends shuttling golf cart rides to and from the high school parking lot.

You’re correct, this is NOT a 3-D target!

Meet Gus, our honorary mascot and family pet. He shows up to greet me every time I pull into the driveway. Apparently, he figured the North American Grand Slam was his chance to make his Oak Ridge debut. He even stood there long enough for a photo with the scoreboard.

I’ll admit… Gus is one deer I’m perfectly happy to see standing in my driveway.

We’ll have the Grand Slam scores posted by tonight. Thank you to all of the archers and families for making the drive and competing yesterday.

We appreciate the compliments and positive reviews! This may be something we do outside of our day jobs, but we truly enjoy what we’re building here. We put a lot of time and work into making these events happen, and we genuinely enjoy getting to meet everyone. Will Herring Jimmy Thornton
