Primal Movement WORKS

Primal Movement WORKS Say hello to Primal Movement Works! in addition, we offer teacher training, a useful tool to add to your teaching tool box! Primal Movement WORKS!

A progressive teaching system of principles, components & key elements that will lead your body back to healthy happy movement. Primal Movement WORKS!™ is an education system founded by Claudia Moose and co-founders Katie Santos and Louise Johns. Together these three offer over 80 years of movement experience and own Absolute Center Movement Studio in Lafayette, California. The core system used in

all the Primal Movement WORKS! courses allows
you to rediscover the movement and freedom you had as a child using a synergy of animal like movements, ancestral postures, and explorations that are progressed through our motor development. There are many primal classes and workouts in the market today. is different from other programs as the PMW teacher training modules offer a systematic approach to unraveling movement challenges. When you experience this system, you will learn the specific progressions used to create a whole-body movement experience; one that makes sense, rather than a collection of exercises placed in random order.

Another way to locomote.

Why are locomotion drills important?

They help us problem solve movement hangs ups which make us smarter.

Improve our fascia health movements in multiple planes.

Instrumental to improving our gait.

Allows us to get into a flow state which helps us to somatically move.

Stay tuned... we’re going to give this a try.

How I clean my floors. :) This is a warm up move we use in my bjj class that is great not just for the core but also in teaching awareness in control of one's body. You might want to try this on a mat first and be sure not to let your elbows hit or even touch the ground.

Happy Baby or not so Happy Baby, that is the question?

We’re forever cruising through IG/FB admiring all the perfect bodies moving in perfect motion however when we’re in our studio working with our clients we’re reminded that not everyone can move as seamlessly as media portrays which is why we have created a place for people to start at the beginning.

Allowing someone to begin where we all started, in a prone position (lying on your back) which we fondly call Happy Baby and the many other movements that can be experienced in this orientation.

Problem is, not everyone loves this position, mostly b/c they struggle to create the shape without being in discomfort.

The neck gets into extension, the tail lifts off the ground, the feet feel like they are miles away and the breath gets stuck in the throat. Not so Happy Baby! With this in mind we’ve started to put together some simple videos for those of you struggling to get started or too afraid b/c things hurt. Its still in its early stages but here is something to get you started.

Happy Baby. Great for hip and leg mobility, head tail connection allows you to sense the shape of your body against the floor and can tell you a story about what needs your attention. Add some gentle rocking from side to side and your nervous system will slowly unwind.

For our teachers out there, we will be in Chicago next week sharing our work with the folks at their Pilates On Tour. Primal Pilates is a for all Pilates teachers and our Foundations work is a great way to take you back to the beginning.
See you there!

This video says it all.
During our research of Primal Movement Works we were heavily influenced by the Laban and Bartinieff work which is where this video came from. And for all our friends who are movement geeks, check IMSMovement (Integrated Movement Studies) who shared this video.
