Here is a new listening journey for dancers: “Tangos, milongas & valses #332.”

Its 43 recordings form 11 contrasting tandas that travel back and forth through tango history. Instrumental and vocal performances alternate with rhythmic and lyrical orchestras, while tangos, milongas and valses from different recording periods keep the experience varied and engaging on the dance floor.

The orchestras include Juan D’Arienzo, Miguel Caló, Alfredo De Angelis, Pedro Laurenz, Lucio Demare, Aníbal Troilo, Francisco Canaro, Carlos Di Sarli, Edgardo Donato, Osvaldo Pugliese and Héctor Varela. The final selection is “La Cumparsita,” the traditional closing tango at a milonga.

Tangos, milongas & valses #331 is a 43-track journey built for the dance floor, tanda by tanda.

Vocal orchestras alternate with instrumentals. Lyrical and melodic performances give way to more rhythmic ones; profound moods are balanced by lighter turns. Tracks 13–15 are milongas, tracks 24–26 are valses, and the rest are tangos.

The playlist closes, as tradition asks, with Juan D’Arienzo’s 1951 recording of La Cumparsita.

What does it really mean to be a good Tango dancer?

It is not simply the ability to perform impressive figures or reproduce the appearance of Tango. It is the capacity to remain organized, present, sensitive, and capable of choosing, even when balance, certainty, or expectation is disturbed.

This new article explores how self-command, technique, patience, attentive practice, resilience, restraint, connection, and belonging transform weakness into capacity.

The journey moves from the intimacy of Lucio Demare and Raul Beron to the rhythmic lift of Ricardo Tanturi, the elegance of Carlos Di Sarli, lyrical valses by Francisco Lomuto, the dramatic force of Osvaldo Pugliese with Jorge Vidal, and a graceful Miguel Calo finale.

A social dance can carry a history that no syllabus can fully preserve.

Osvaldo Agudio and Elvira Borrone belonged to a generation of Buenos Aires milongueros who kept that history alive on the floor. Their friend Jorge Manganelli called them milongueros de ley - true milongueros.

This recording at the historic Salón Akarense is not a theatrical performance or fixed choreography. Watch the way they walk, pause, redirect the movement, and remain in conversation through the embrace. Their tango is improvised and musical, but also unmistakably their own.

Akarense was also a place of transmission. Manganelli’s Peña de Tango La Ronda brought younger dancers together with older maestros, allowing customs and knowledge to pass from one generation to the next. Osvaldo and Elvira were remembered in a world that also included figures such as Gerardo Portalea, Antonio Todaro, and Pepito Avellaneda, and neighborhood venues including Akarense and Sin Rumbo.

This new playlist brings together 43 recordings arranged in traditional tandas of tangos, milongas, and valses.

The sequence explores the rhythmic precision, lyrical warmth, and orchestral richness of Enrique Rodríguez, Lucio Demare, Alfredo De Angelis, Edgardo Donato, Aníbal Troilo, Ángel D’Agostino, Rodolfo Biagi, Carlos Di Sarli, Ricardo Tanturi, Osvaldo Pugliese, and Juan D’Arienzo.

Vocal interpretations by Roberto Flores, Ángel Vargas, Andrés Falgás, Alberto Castillo, and Héctor Mauré alternate with the distinctive instrumental voices of Di Sarli, Pugliese, Troilo, and D’Arienzo.

The playlist concludes with D’Arienzo’s “La Cumparsita,” respecting the tradition of playing this emblematic tango as the final piece of the milonga.
