On Wednesday, June 24, I will be celebrating a very special night at La Pista in San Francisco: my 60th birthday, 33 years of professional career in Argentine Tango, and the public presentation of Danceable, my app created for the dance community.

The party/práctica starts at 9:00 PM and continues until midnight.

On Wednesday, June 24, I’ll be celebrating a very special night at La Pista in San Francisco.

This evening brings together three meaningful milestones: my 60th birthday, 33 years of professional work in Argentine Tango, and the public presentation of Danceable, my new app created for the dance community.

We’ll begin with an Argentine Tango class from 8:00 to 9:00 PM, followed by a práctica from 9:00 PM to midnight with live music by Trío Jacobsen, Ramil, Shum. I’ll be DJing during the band’s breaks.

There will also be a toast, a brief Danceable presentation, and my birthday vals.

Forward ochos become clearer when we stop thinking of the pivot as something separate.

The pivot happens at the same time as the change of weight. The torso begins the rotation, and that movement travels downward through the body in a descending spiral.

Feel the stretch from one shoulder to the opposite heel. Let the heel point down. Keep the inside of the shoe softly connected to the floor. Let the legs stay together during the pivot itself.

This is where the ocho becomes grounded, elegant, and connected.

His 60th birthday.
33 years of professional career as an Argentine Tango dancer, teacher, choreographer, and researcher.
And the public presentation of Danceable, his new app created for the dance community.

This celebration will take place at La Pista in San Francisco, with an Argentine Tango class, a práctica, live music, and Marcelo Solis DJing.

This week’s playlist is a complete tango journey arranged in tandas for study, practice, and social dancing.

The playlist begins with the elegance of D’Agostino-Vargas, Tanturi, and Di Sarli, then opens into a playful Lomuto milonga tanda. From there, it moves through the emotional depth of Demare, the unmistakable rhythmic drive of D’Arienzo, the expressive phrasing of Pedro Laurenz, and the beautiful valses of Miguel Caló with Raúl Berón.

The second half brings Donato’s lightness, Pugliese’s dramatic intensity, and a final Troilo instrumental tanda. And, as every milonga night traditionally does, it closes with La Cumparsita.
