Earlier this year, I felt pretty defeated. I had poured so much of myself into something that didn't work out the way I had hoped. I remember putting it out into the universe that maybe — just maybe — there was something better ahead.
Then I put my head down. And I worked my ass off. There have been plans and permits. Dirt. Mud. Gravel. Walls. Weather delays. A whole lot of problem solving. A whole lot of people who looked at my crazy ideas and said, okay…let's figure out how to do it.
And today feels like one giant, beautiful affirmation.
There is a 21' × 43' swimming pool in my backyard. 💙
As someone who has spent so much of my life in and around water — teaching, learning, lifeguarding, coaching, and advocating for water safety — I don't quite have words for what it feels like to look out there and see this. Actually, that's a lie. I have words.
AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! 😂
Today was WATER TRUCK DAY. 💦
We started with the garden hose over the side and me peeking from a ladder…and then the big guns arrived. 😂
And now, on what feels like a 100-degree Indiana day, five grown adults are standing around watching water fill a swimming pool like we're watching water boil. But for me, this is MUCH more exciting!
The future of Swim Lessons Of Greater Lafayette isn't just a vision anymore. It is becoming a reality. This pool will be where children and adults learn to build strength and confidence in the water.
For today, though? I'm just standing here watching the water rise. And squealing. 💙💦
