This week, we are at "The Shed" to meet with Coach Brett Guidry, owner of Southpaw Martial Arts & Fitness Center in Lafayette! His martial arts journey began over 15 years ago after moving to the area and discovering a love for karate. That passion took him all the way to China in 2019, where he immersed himself in Chinese martial arts. After returning home and stepping away from competition, Brett turned his focus to coaching— now sharing his knowledge, techniques, and passion for Martial arts with the people of Acadiana
Southpaw offers personal training and group classes in kickboxing and tai chi, each with its own unique benefits. Tai Chi is a low-impact, slow and controlled movement & breathing practice that’s excellent for improving mobility, balance, coordination, and core strength. It also supports mental focus and stress reduction, making it a great choice for people of all ages and fitness levels. On the other hand, kickboxing is fast-paced and high-energy — perfect for building cardiovascular endurance, strength, agility, and self-defense skills. Whether you're looking to tone up, blow off steam, or work through an injury, there’s something for everyone.
In addition to studio classes, Southpaw also hosts a Tai Chi session once a month at Moncus Park that is free to the public, giving newcomers a chance to try things out in a relaxed, community-centered setting without commitment.
