This song was playing on loop in my mind as I woke up this morning. It was the best feeling in the world to wake up and move my body on a reformer.

2020 has been rough but this is a great way to end it strong. Being classically trained using this equipment was a bit of a challenge. Still so fun!

One thing I love most about Pilates is how it can meet you wherever your body’s at and challenge you every step of the way.

Simply adding small weights can challenge exercises that feel second nature and prove that you still have work to do.

Watching this video back I can point out lots of flaws in my technique but I’m sharing it anyway because Pilates is about striving for progress not perfection.

For each exercise initiate movement from the abdominals; scooping in and up through the crown of the head.

✨Roll Up
5-10 Reps
Pick up tempo halfway through for added challenge

✨Spine Stretch Forward
5-8 Reps
Imagine peeling your spine forward off an imaginary wall

✨Saw
5-8 Sets
Reach past your toes as the opposite hand presses behind you

✨Teaser 1, 2, 3
3 Reps Each
“Tease” or resist gravity as you roll into the floor each time.

Happy 137th Birthday to the man, the myth, the legend, Joseph Pilates!

Yes! Pilates was created by a man and he wasn’t a dancer he was a boxer. Joe originally called his method Contrology because it focused on six principles:

Breath
Concentration
Centering
Control
Flow
Precision

To accomplish these principles simultaneously requires complete control of the body, mind, and spirit. This is where the name Contrology comes from. It wasn’t until after his death in 1967 that his method became known as Pilates.

Push Ups are one of the best ways to exercise using your own body weight. They require full body activation so they work every part of your body but I’ve found that for many people they are intimidating. Today I’m sharing 4 variations that will get you moving toward mastering push ups.

Front Support/Plank
- Tailbone tucked hips not dropping or lifting
- Shoulders over wrists
- Neck long
- Hold 10-60 sec

Low Plank
- Tailbone tucked hips not dropping or lifting
- Shoulders over wrists
- Neck long
- Hold 10-60 sec

Serratus Push Ups
- Low plank position
- Shoulder blades hug together/press apart
- Small movement
- 5-10 reps

Knees Down Chaturanga Push Ups
- Body in one line from shoulders to knees
- Brush elbows past your rib cage to lower/lift
- Lower/lift in one piece
- 5-10 reps

Holds/Reps can be increased as stamina builds
