Dr. Hook Sport Fishing Charters

Dr. Hook Sport Fishing Charters Capt. Pete Grasso has been guiding fishermen on Lake Winnipesaukee for over 30 years. Our specialty is ice-out fishing for landlocked salmon & rainbow trout.

Fish for landlocked salmon and rainbow trout on Lake Winnipesaukee, one of New England's premier salmon fisheries. We have a 24' walk-a-round with a cabin and all of the latest equipment. Spring fishing is done with streamer flies using 4 lb test line. Our minimum fee for a 4 hour charter is $250 (for one or two clients). Additional clients would be $125 each. Be sure to call and confirm a week

or so prior to the charter as COVID-19 may impact your trip. Face covering (Masks) are required at ALL times aboard. Valid NH fishing license required and NO BANANAS ALLOWED ON BOARD AT ANY TIME.

Well, it's been quite a run....37 years & now it's time to put the poles away & retire. Have made so many friends along the way and it's so hard to walk away. However, arthritis in back and hands have made things difficult & time to stop before I get into trouble. I want to thank, from the bottom of my heart, all of you folks that have fished with me over the years. We've had some good times and some not so good times and for the most part, have caught a lot of fish.
My last charter, today, had to cancel for personal reasons AND I sincerely pray that things work out for you Gary.
My charter on Friday really made my day. I had a young lady from Mongolia on board and she caught her first ever salmon AND rainbow trout. What a thrill for her and me, as well.
God bless you all and thank you for patronizing my charters over the years.
Capt. Pete

It was such a pleasure and with a great deal of love that my son, Tony, and I took my great grandson Joey out to Lake Ontario to fish for King Salmon. He scored big time as we fished with my good friend Jeff Waner aboard the "Empty Hook". Jeff charters river trips for steelhead on the Salmon River under the name of Osprey Adventures. In any case, Joey hooked up with two great fish. One was 22 pounds and the other 16 pounds. Guess what? He wants to do it again. Gotta love it.

Seriously thinking about retiring after this year. I've been at this since the mid-70's. Caught a LOT of fish and have made a ton of friends over the years. Will be selling the "Dr Hook" as well. This will be a TOTAL package. Boat, trailer, ALL the equipment on the boat, downriggers, VHF, Speed & Temp (Fish Hawk" unit and ALL of my rods, reels, lures, flys......etc (and I do have a lot of terminal tackle as well as 12-15 rods/reel units. Set ups (4) for fishing the BIG salmon on Lake Ontario as well as jig boxes and set up for fishing the rainbows and landlocked salmon here. Most likely a half a pick-up load of gear. The boat is a 24' Crestliner Eagle, walk-around with a nice cabin. Hull is welded (NOT rivet) aluminum and is GREAT in rough water. Have been on Lake "O" in 6 - 7 foot rollers. Oh well. I could end up chartering again in 2026. We'll see. In any case September should be "Hot" here.....

Looks like a jump on "Fall" fishing. Water temp still in upper 70's & fish are deep. Dug out the old "Gold Finger" & had one on in about 10 minutes. Nice FAT rainbow. Picked up a nice salmon shortly after that and all before 7:30 AM.... Gassed up boat & will now spend a day scrubbing. Hard to believe the boat gets so dirty while sitting at the doc. Oh well. Next on the list is a couple of days fishing out of Mexico, NY for some fall running kings. Going to take my great grandson out for him to catch his first king. THIS is going to be FUN!!

Quiet morning as far as boat traffic concerned. Will be a LOT for the next few days. In the interim, we whacked on the rainbows this morning. This was a beauty!

WOW...I just don't get it. Ice out fishing this year is the BEST it's been in the last 4 years. This morning (a bit misty & temp in 50's), ideal day to be on the water. NOT ONE boat in Meredith Bay, at the Weirs or Saunders Bay. What's up with that. Oh well, no complaints here......no boat traffic & no pressure on the fish. We still have a few open dates in the next couple of weeks (Prime time).
Give us a call if interested (603-455-1020) or email at: [email protected].

Interesting day on Sunday! Thick fog, winds from the East & the bite wouldn't quit. LOTS of salmon & a couple of lakers (Water temp in low 50's). All salmon between 17 - 19". No "Rod Breakers", but more fun than you could imagine. We use barbless hooks, so no major hook injuries. Most fell off in the net & returned to the water uninjured, but a bit tired. So much for "Dark day, dark fly, bright day, bright fly". ALL were hooked up on bright flies. Some so beat up they should have been discarded, but the fish kept hitting them. Hope it keeps up. We'll see......................

Great to be back on the water again. Had a great couple of days out there. First few trips out are always a challenge as in most cases the fish are NOT where you left then last fall. You concentrate on the "Usual" areas and expand from there. On the first couple of trips, we noted water temp running about 39 degrees. Yesterday, it was up around 44. When you have water this cold, you can usually plan on a mixed bag of salmon, lakers & rainbows. We hooked up with a number of nice salmon yesterday (All would have been good keepers, but we didn't keep any). We also had a fairly nice laker try to run off with one of our flies. As the water warms up, so will the fishing. Be careful out there and respect the other boaters.

Well, while there was a mini blizzard here, the fishing was fine on the Salmon River. A great big thanks to our dear friend and guide, Jeff Waner of Osprey Adventures Guide Service. While they were not just jumping in the boat. We were successful. Looking forward to getting on the water here on the big lake. A few days still open for spring salmon fishing. Contact us at: [email protected].

One more milestone to cover before we plan on our spring launching and that's taking place next Sun, Mon, & Tue. Our annual trip to New York's Salmon River for some steelhead fishing with our great friend Jeff Waner of Osprey Adventures Guide Service. Jeff is always right on the fish and we have a wonderful time fishing & reminiscing of trips past. Also hope to drop in & visit with Bob & Carolyn at the Salmon Country Marina. All great folks and miss them dearly. Will return on 3/25 & begin prepping the boat for launching when the ice goes out. Looking forward to a GREAT spring season. To set up a charter, contact us at: [email protected].....Stay safe everyone.

Hard to believe that there are only 38 more days until the opening of Salmon season. We had to shovel the boat out at least once last spring. I don't think we'll be in as early this year, but who knows. Looking to start up charters the end of April & flyers will be going out next week announcing early bookings. Still a lot to do once we can access the boat as well as respooling all the lines, etc. Hopefully, we'll have a great season as we took some real nice salmon the end of the season in 2024. Time will tell. Best way to contact us is via email: [email protected]
If you do call and there is no answer, please leave a message as phone doesn't recognize your number, it won't answer. PLEASE...LEAVE A MESSAGE.
Thanks & hope to see you aboard this spring.
