Hello - It has been a wet and cool spring but there have been a couple of nice days that remind us why we love our beach so much! Below are some reminders regarding the beach so that we can all have a safe and enjoyable summer!!

1) Bracelets - Please remember that if you or your guests are going to the beach you must have your bracelet! This is the only effective way that we can try and keep non-members from using our beach. Please be understanding if someone asks you to see your bracelet. We are not intending to be rude or confronting but it is the only way to keep non-members off the beach. Thanks for your understanding! If you still need to get your bracelets feel free to email us and we can arrange a way to get them to you!

2) Canoes & Kayaks - Please do not leave your canoes, kayaks and other boats on the ground. There is natural vegetation that is important to the health of the beach that can be damaged by the boats on the ground. Thanks!

3) Fireworks - Fireworks will be on July 3rd at dusk! We will be closing off the south side of the beach at 4pm to start on setting up. If you want to join the fireworks committee please let us know! Please be mindful of some of our older members who want to come down to the beach to enjoy the show. If at all possible please park up on the road to leave parking for those who do not want or can not walk that far. Thanks!

4) Please be vigilant while at the beach. If you see something that does not seem right let a board member know! If something really does not seem right call the police.

5) Adult Party - Elaine Dennis and Kathleen Krom are a committee of 2 planning the adult party which is scheduled for August 3rd with a rain date of the 4th! They are asking members with an odd number address to bring side dishes or savory salads and members with an even number address to bring dessert items! Chicken, hot dogs, chips, dips, soft drinks and water will be provided by the Association. To create a more festive atmosphere they are looking to borrow a stereo system for the evening and lawn games! They also need volunteers to grill, help set up and clean up! If you have questions, want to join the committee, or just volunteer feel free to email us or text Kathleen at 914-204-0366

6) Dogs at the beach - Just want to clarify the updated rule for dogs at the beach. Dogs are allowed at the beach between the hours of 6pm and 10am. Between the hours of 6pm and 8pm dogs must be on the north side of the beach by the boats. Dogs must be under control at all times when at the beach. Thanks!

The Lakewood Beach Annual Member Meeting is scheduled for Saturday May 11th at the Boys and Girls Club in Laconia at 9am. 876 North Main St Laconia

Beach Clean-up is scheduled for directly after the meeting so around 10:30am. Please join us as many hands make for light work! Rain date for the Beach Clean up is Sunday at 10am.

The agenda for the Member Meeting will be as follows:

-2018 Recap

-2018 Budget Review and presentation of 2019 Budget

-2019 Budget - There has been an increase in Insurance Costs, We would like to get 2 more tables made as well as do some maintenance to the existing wood tables. Because of liability issues the biggest discussion will revolve around Beach Clean-up and Fireworks show.

-Gate Duty - We are thinking of changing the way we do gate duty. We will still need volunteers!

-Slate of the Board - I believe we are still looking for people who may want to serve on the board. Please let us know if you want to be added to the Slate.

-Bylaw Changes - We will be making some simple changes to the bylaws. These changes are semantic in nature with no changes proposed which will effect the membership. If you would like a copy of the proposed changes email us and we can send as an attachment.

-Moorings - There has been discussion with several members about allowing power boats to use the mooring. Since this is a change to the rules it will need to be voted on. Please note that the board voted and does not support this change.

- Other Business - Please let us know if there are other concerns that you would like to bring up at the meeting

-We have agreed to set the Member meeting for May 11th at 9am. Hoping to secure the Boys and Girls Club again. Beach clean-up would be directly after the meeting. Rain out for clean up would be the following Saturday. Stay tuned for more information regarding the member meeting!

MONITORING THE BEACH...

We have had many non-members visiting the beach in larger numbers and need to start some sort of BEACH PATROL group. Its not fun to do the monitoring and asking people to see their wrist bands, but if we all do it regularly it will be a reminder for members to bring them and help us identify those who should not be there.

If you find a non-member, ask them to leave and remind them that there are two public beaches in Ahern Park and also Bartlett Park nearby.

If you don't like approaching people one on one, ask another member who is at the beach when you are, to canvass those who are there. Wrist bands can be on arms, on chairs, in bags or wherever. Guests or home visitors need the member with them and someone with a wristband. Groups can not be larger than 10 and if there is an event, the event application will be posted on the bulletin board.

Non-members are trespassers and the vandalism, dog remains and rubbish left behind are often linked to them. We pay taxes to have the right to participate at the beach and if we want to keep it family friendly, we all need to help with this matter. Don't put the burden on one or two people, as it ruins their time on the beach.

If you are around and able and willing to join a Beach Patrol group, let us know. The group will discuss various ways we can manage the situation and also participate in the monitoring. Contact any Director, or email us at [email protected]
