New England Boat & Motor, Inc. 1920's Mahogany Speedboats - The Finest In The World

Forty years ago Mason located, purchased and restored BABY BOOTLEGGER, IMP, SISTER SYN, METEOR V, REBEL II and BIRCHES. Thirty years ago he took BABY BOOTLEGGER on the antique boat show circuit, winning many awards everywhere she was shown. Collectors involved Mason in their projects and soon he opened his shop in Laconia, New Hampshire, next to Winnipesaukee, one of the greatest boating lakes in America. His shop has restored and built historically accurate reproductions for customers from Tahoe and Arizona to the East Coast and Canada. Those boats include WAMPUM, MISS COLUMBIA, KEEGO, PAINTED LADY/MISS FLORIDA, SHELIZALOU, TYPHOON, WHITE ROSE, SEEMEGO, a flock of reproduction 19 Ft Blue & White racers, GOLDEN DAYS, IMPSHI, SULTANA and more. Today, he has taken historic original plans for boats which vanished 75 years ago and built reproductions that are for sale. They are so accurate that they achieve speeds of 70 MPH equaling the World Speed Records of their ancestors.

------------------------------------

Developed in the early 1940s, the Rolls-Royce Meteor was a non-supercharged adaptation of the legendary Merlin aero engine, redesigned specifically for land-based warfare. Engineers created a rugged 27-liter V12 capable of powering the next generation of heavy armor. It became the definitive British and allied tank engine spanning nearly 50 years thru World War II, the Korean and Vietnam wars and into the Gulf war.

The Meteor provided the massive torque required for the Cromwell, Comet, and Centurion tanks. Its transition from the skies to the battlefield revolutionized tank mobility, proving so successful that it remained in frontline service for half a century.

SOLD: 1920s John Hacker | Mahogany Gentleman's Racer - $40,000

Bees Knees is an original 1920s John Hacker Gentlemen's Racer built a hundred years ago from a Hacker design published as “GLADYS.” She is between 20' and 21' long and was discovered in a barn near Lake Sebago, Maine in the early 1990's. An attached photo shows her as found.

A painstaking restoration was undertaken, preserving the structural framework of the hull wherever possible. Her rebuilding spanned three years and was completed in 1995. The hull is planked in Honduras Mahogany. The decks are flush fastened with her slotted brass screws lined up fore and aft and reflecting in the surface.

A few years ago her bottom was damaged and New England Boat & Motor, Inc. installed a triple planked, vacuum bag, epoxy cold molded bottom.

With the knowledge of her getting a massively strong bottom, her owner had the V8 engine rebuilt and stroked to 383 cubic inches. The boat is very fast. Maybe too fast? (Smile). But she flies along effortlessly.

Bees Knees is equipped with a specially fitted welded steel “wish bone” trailer built by Windsor Metal products and she can be easily transported anywhere.

Her owner of many years has asked New England Boat & Motor to sell the boat. Price $40,000. Offers gladly considered.

FOR SALE: Vintage Stewart-Warner Oil Temperature Gauge (NOS) – $250

Vintage (NOS) Stewart-Warner 2-5/8” Oil Temperature Gauge (100-325 °F) with curved glass lens and crescent moon pointer sometimes found in IndyCars from the 1930s, mahogany speedboats, hot rods, rat rods, drag boats and vintage sportscars. Capillary tube is coiled up in a factory manner with its bulb and adapter bushing still intact and wrapped in factory protective wrapping. Tube assembly appears to be around 60” long. Due to the brittle nature of copper tubing, we prefer not to unwind the capillary to get an exact dimension. Nice candidate for a project. As found condition. Offers gladly considered.
