Another season in the books for the red team. Things started and finished off extremely well this time around. First off the weather was perfect the whole weekend. Second, everyone showed up ready to play and guys were cool both days. The majority of the games were within 3 runs with the exception of the E vs D crossover round to finish up Saturday afternoon. Done in time to watch the Ducks stick it to USC and the Beavers win too was a great nightcap.

In the double elimination lower bracket Sunday morning, Still Here from Medford overcame a rough 0-3 Saturday to go undefeated on Sunday 15-12 over Mooseknuckle (4th place), 13-12 over Hoodlums (3rd place) and held on 6-5 in the finals over Family Affair comprised of family members from Washington and Salem. Still Here found a way to win the close games. Good job Ernie and the guys! In addition to a nice trophy, MVP mug and beanies, they will also be designing their own champions t-shirs my guy Robert at Elite Screenprinting in Salem will knock out for these guys so they can all match.

In the upper bracket, it was quite a day. The biggest difference in any game was 4 runs when Outlaws beat Hussey/Shelter to start the day (18-14). Jersey Lilly held off Holiday RV 12-10 to meet up with Outlaws and held on in that game 11-8 to make the finals. In the losers bracket, H***y was up on RV 15-2, then a huge inning and they found themselves down by about 6-7 runs. They fought back and took the lead in the top of the 7th 25-24 and held on in the bottom to win by a run. Hussey then took on the Outlaws and facing a one run deficit in the 7th inning, they gave up a 2 run shot and never got it going in the bottom of the inning to lose 12-9. This sent the Outlaws to the finals against Jersey Lilly. The home team Jersey Lilly battled hard and came up a play short to lose 13-12 in the finals.

The IF game was an unexpected classic 10 inning game. A game filled with great plays, clutch hits, and some missed opportunities by both teams. Billy and Fidel were locked in a pitching duel both backed by stud fielders defending some great hitters. Both teams scored exactly one run each in the last innings. Tied at 17, then 18, then 19 when Jersey Lilly scored one run in the 10th. After two slick fielding plays in the bottom of the 10th, the Outlaws were down to their last out. Then hit, walk, hit, hit and Fidel scores the winning run from second base with the throw to the plate just a bit late. Final score 20-19, with the last 3 games of the day being one run outcomes.

A tip of the cap to the other team and everyone left as friends. No serious injuries, and probably less than 20 hangovers. We found only one real 'tool' in the whole park and after he was tossed Saturday morning we never saw him again. And his team won the lower bracket championship. Pretty sure he won't be wearing the champions shirt like the rest of his 'teammates'. Now former teammates.

A big pat on the back to the men in red (Saturday) and black (Sunday). These guys may not always get it right, but they have the best uniforms in the game and at least look good almost all the time. Plus they had the long roadtrip from Salem to Medford and back, but it's all good. Thanks again for some enthralling softball and the good sportsmanship all weekend. And a big shout out to the weather gods after 2 weeks of rain here in the Cherry City (aka Salem).
We will start cranking things up Feb/March next year, so be prepared for a lot of upgrades that we will be undergoing during the off season.
We will also be taking this momentum from this weekend and season in general, as well as correcting some of our interal shortcomings to make the best softball in Oregon even better. Some of you guys out there will be playing a large or larger part in making 2013 an awesome season.

Thanks again to the players, umpires, directors, concessions, fans, city of Medford, Joes Sports Bar, Ducks/Beavers, weather gods, Baden softballs, Chevy van, Quality Trophy & Custom Stitch, Best Western Hotel, U.S. Cellular Park and USSSA for the great weekend.

No thanks to the gal in the drive thru at Wendy's that forgot our TWO fries, and gave us 9 pepper, and ZERO salt packets for the potato. Epic fail.

See you guys soon! Thanks again.

Nov 3-4 Medford USSSA Fall State START TIMES

The weekend is coming up so if you want some good games before the season ends, this is a good time to do it. We have a 2-3 more teams possibly signing in, so we have extended the deadline a couple days. A few teams have dropped out, so we are currently about at 10 teams...12 is a good number for the weekend. The rain is supposed to be gone or on the way out, and low 60's so not bad for November. We will play both days, 2-3 games for everyone on Saturday and all being done around 3-4pm. Sunday will start double elimination at 9am for most teams. 1st-3rd trophies for the upper AND lower brackets. Plus 24 Utrip beanies for the players that excel and go deep in the brackets. The park opens an hour before start times for the guys wanting to loosen up.

Best Western south by the park is a nice place to stay over and they feed you good in the morning. You can get a roll away bed to get 3 guys in a room so the cost is more than fair. Red Lion downtown is a good place to stay if you don't want to drive anywhere at night.

Nov 3-4 Medford USSSA Fall State Update

We have about 2 days to finish up the signups for next weekend in Medford. We could use a few more teams to ensure we play both days. With the Ducks vs. Trojans about 4pm Saturday, we will have to be done before then either way. The local guys, help spread the word to get a few more teams in as half the teams currently are from out of town. Should be a good tourney, with an upper and lower bracket!

Southern Oregon State Results
We could not have asked for a better 2 days in Medford. The weather was beautiful, the attitudes were in check,
a lot of good softball was played, and the tournament ran smoothly - finishing 5 minutes before league started!!!!!

In the "D" bracket, Jersey Lilly was able to defeat Holiday RV in the if game to take the championship.
These 2 teams played 4 times this weekend, splitting the series 2 and 2. Two great teams playing at a high level.
In the championship game, Holiday RV exploded early and never looked back. In the If game, the roles were
reversed. Lilly played strong in the middle of the game and walked away with the big trophy. A combination of Bomb Shelter
and Hussey Trucking finished 3rd, with the Wild Bunch playing up taking 4th. On a side note, I have never had
any dealings with Holiday RV in the past. They are obviously a great softball team, but I appreciated how they
played hard as well as how they conducted themselves on and off the field.

In the "E" bracket Jackson Creek Pizza went undefeated to win. Three close games, but on top every time.
Mooseknuckle just got better as the tournament progressed. Making its way through the losers bracket, before
bowing out to JCP in the final. Still Here proved that they are still in the picture with a 3rd place finish and the young
men from Yreka placed 4th.

If there was such a thing as a sportsmanship trophy, Yreka and Mooseknuckle would be contenders.
They played hard all weekend without saying a word. They did all the things that make softball
enjoyable for everyone involved in their games. That being said, it was almost an uneventful weekend where
all the teams did a great job on the field. I know the TD and umpires REALLY appreciate that.

We will be back in Medford the first weekend in November. Hope to see all of you out there. Hopefully
we can make this a tourney with lots of teams. Spread the word.

Mens USSSA state championships aug 25/26 Salem, Oregon

OK Fellas....Here is a list of team eligible for state. Most of these teams are IN, so unless half of you 'drop out', this will be one heck of a bracket. West Coast Car Crushing will be in Washington playing 'D' Nationals instead of Salem, so hopefully they do well up there. They just went 2-2 in 'C' State in Wa, so keep up the good work and bring some hardware to Oregon WCCC!

If your team is on the list and needs to be removed make sure we know a week out as there is not much room for more teams.
Plan on a start closer to noon as we will get the lower bracket started first. Also plan on just the final six or final four from each bracket coming back for guaranteed hardware Sunday morning. So, a two day tourney for just 8-12 total teams. The other 20 will be eliminated on Saturday. If you need some hotel tips, hit me up. Plus we have Coed Midnight Madness overnight Saturday. That tourney would be starting late....possibly just an hour or two before midnight. Men's teams are able to bring in overnight tents/campers since we are playing overnight and our last midnight tourney everyone was cool so we earned a second chance to do it again.

If your team is not on any of these lists, don't freak out. It could be an oversight on our part. Or you have not yet qualified.
Or your team no longer exists and you don't know it.
Or your team is on lock down. Or your playing in a higher tournament out of state.
Or you have too many donkeys. Whatever the case, hit me up since most of you got me on speed dial. We have less than two weeks to make sure this weekend kicks butt, so everyone do their part. If your team is not playing in state, the remnants of your team could still join the party overnight in the coed bracket, but not for state as all teams should be more than set by now.

Lower Bracket 8am-9am start times approximate

Midnight Madness Results

Well, it was not perfect, but a pretty good night under the stars.
Some pretty good softball with lots of home runs kept things exciting.

In the Upper Division, we had three 3-1 teams in each pool, with only 2 teams able to advance.
All State Fence and JFS Boomers advanced on one side, leaving out SCS.
Adrenaline and the Tappers advanced on the other side, leaving out the Ruff Riders.
This side could not get any closer. These teams were separated by 4 runs given up.
1st Place: Tappers
2nd Place: Adrenaline
3rd Place: JFS Boomers
4th Place: All State Fence

In the lower division, Combat Ready and the Back Yard Boys swept through the pool play.
On one side, a reunited Hangovers edged out Kawbi Tattoo. On the other side, the Peace Makers
edged out MonStars on a game ending DBO.
1st Place: Peace Makers
2nd Place: Back Yard Boys
3rd Place: Combat Ready
4th Place: Hangovers

I would like to than all the teams from Coos Bay to Prineville, to the Salem area, to the Portland area
to Washington that came to Salem for this tournament. 48 games were played in a 12 hour span.
Thanks to the veteran umpires that were out there all night and the newer umpires that put in a shift.
Thanks to Chris for keeping the scores and figuring out the tie-breakers.
This was my first tournament to run, and I will learn from it. Already thinking about next year.
Like having a HR trophy for those designated home run hitters. And maybe even a Home Run contest
with the women between the two tournaments. Look out guys. I would not take them lightly.

Thanks. I enjoyed the tournament due to the great competition and fun seemed to be had by many.
