I found black rubber floating in the pool a few days ago and couldn’t figure out what it was. It turns out that it was remnants of 544 lessons taught and so many children safer around water. ❤️💦

Good morning! Because my schedule is now closed to new students this summer, I will be stepping away from social media again. Parents will be sent videos and pictures I take during lessons, and I encourage you to continue to post those! Please help me continue to advocate for South Texas Survival Swim and Drowning Prevention even in my online absence. For questions or to be added to Lauren and my waitlist, please feel free to text or email. My number and email are listed below. I look forward to continuing lessons this summer, and to meeting a lot of new faces next spring!

Edit: Jesus heard Sara’s prayer and it is now working! Lessons are still cancelled this morning to give it time to circulate and heat, and I need to test chemicals after circulation. Will see everyone this afternoon!

Lightning struck extremely close to our home this morning, knocking out power. Power was restored to our home, but the pool pump won’t come on. Lessons are cancelled this morning and everyone has been contacted. I’m praying that the sun and wind will dry everything out and it will begin working again. If you are scheduled this afternoon, please keep an eye out for updates.

Thank you Jesus for the rain! With rain, comes a lot of mud. Please park beside the Quonset hut (email with picture sent) and wear shoes that can get muddy to walk across the yard. Please remove all shoes before you enter the fenced pool area in an effort to keep mud out and away from the pool.

Looking cute and “independence” don’t outweigh safety, friends. Burn those PJ’s. Send me a video of you doing it and I will gladly give you a lesson for free.

My mom just had a child who had a beautiful float and this week- vertical. What happened?

Babysitter put the child in a puddle jumper.

This type of interference could be deadly… when the child already had a beautiful float!

We don’t pour our hearts out about puddle jumpers to judge you.

We do it because we have learned (and seen) SO much and know the dangers of them.. and desperately don’t want you to experience what we did.

Have questions? Ask! But please, please do NOT put your child in one of these.

There will be a lot of new faces joining South Texas Survival Swim this week, so here are a few things to expect!

• Chickens (The pool fence is keeping them a little further away. 🥴😂)
• Praise and Worship Music
• An occasional airplane
• My children wanting to chat with you, show you bugs, and maybe put bugs on you. (Sorry, Jenna.)

On a more serious note:
• The first lesson will begin with the parent and I discussing previous water history, their child’s demeanor, and poolside expectations.
• Tears, especially for my younger students. (I am a stranger teaching them a new skill. Tears are normal, but often stop fairly quickly! Parents of children 3 and younger can get in the water with us the first few lessons if you would like!)
• A lot of walking around the pool while I hold your child, and talking.
• Your child’s floating posture. (Head back, belly up!)

I can’t wait to meet you all soon!

It’s Memorial Day weekend. 🇺🇸 A weekend that we remember those that selflessly gave their life protecting our beautiful country. A weekend that we gather with community. That we eat, and drink, and often in South Texas, swim. We find a pool, go to the coast, the river, or the lake. Memorial Day weekend marks the start of summer, and the unofficial beginning of drowning season.

While you are in the water, please remember your layers of protection. If one layer were enough, drowning wouldn’t be a leading cause of death in children.

• SUPERVISION is your most important layer of protection.
• Get in the water with your children. Small children, especially those not equipped with self rescue skills, should never be in a body of water without you.
• Verbally designate a water watcher or hire a lifeguard that is sober and distraction free. If you assume that everyone is watching, no one is 100% watching.
• Keep a headcount of all children in the pool.
• Eliminate large floaties that children may get trapped under & deflate all floaties when swim time is over.
• Close and lock all gates and doors leading to the pool when done swimming. (MOST ACCIDENTS HAPPEN DURING NON-SWIM TIMES.)
• Eliminate puddle jumpers and other PFD’s in the pool that give children and parents both a false sense of security.
• Put a PFD on your child near and on open water, murky water, deep water, and water with currents.

Have fun this weekend, but please be safe! Drowning doesn’t discriminate.

Even when swimming leisurely, we practice our aquatic safety skills. Being safe in the water still means having fun!
