Thursday Nights at Irwindale

The air is choked in anxious smoke
Encasing Purple Reign
To hunt and purge as beasts they surge
The time to beat again

Inside the pit a Viper sits
It's feeding time within
A charge a tweak to check the leaks
The prize is there to win

A Comet waits, anticipates
It wants to growl and scream
The cage is locked the gates are blocked
A tree is turning green

The views obscured the ground is blurred
A driven flight embarks
As bending skies are flashing by
The Comet's shooting sparks

A time is shown the helmets thrown
A flaxen mane jerks back
She sees the time it's 5.9
On that 8th mile of track...
