Local Organized Trail Rides 🐴

The SMTR Board is looking to see if there’s an interest in bringing back organized trail rides in the Southern Maryland area!

Traditionally, we’ve enjoyed riding at County and State Parks with themed rides, along with some truly cherished Private Land Rides. Over the years, finding private properties with 5+ miles of trails has become increasingly challenging. We know our members enjoy the opportunity to ride on private land, and we’ll continue working to build those relationships with landowners.

In the meantime, would you like to see organized rides make a comeback? If so, drop a comment below or send us a message! We’d love to hear what you’re interested in.

We’re also looking for folks who would like to get involved with organizing rides. Some of the perks include:

🐴 Helping choose the schedule and locations for rides
🐴 Ride registration fees waived when you volunteer at the ride
🐴 Helping create fun, memorable riding opportunities for our local horse community

In the past there have been efforts by SMMB to work with DNR to create a sustainable bypass around the steep/rough hill near the dam, and it's finally happening. Maryland State Parks plan to cut the trail later in the week, but we have asked to help prepare the corridor where the trail will go. This will be done with loppers, pruners, hand saws and similar tools. If you have some of your own bring them, if you don't have tools just come out and we will have extras. There is a link to the SMMB waiver for this trail work day on the SignUpGenius page, if you can print, sign and bring it along that will be helpful(we will have some also).

We will be meeting at the main lot off Point Lookout Rd, and plan to start walking from the parking lot at 12:30PM.

Unfortunately we are cancelling Sundays ride due to the high chance of heavy rain expected. We will keep everyone posted about dates of rides for 2024.

🐴 We have finalized a few more dates for our Fall Schedule. Our October ride has been moved to October 1st and we opened up another Private Land Ride. Check out the Facebook events for specific details to each ride 🐴
