The 6th Annual Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz https://www.nrpa.org/BioBlitz/ is a national campaign to raise awareness and community involvement in the pollinator crisis through local parks and recreation. Pollinators are a vital component of our ecosystem, and an essential link to the world’s food supply. Join City of La Marque La Marque Parks & Recreation's challenge to see how many pollinator species can be documented during the month of September. Make observations from your own backyard, La Marque community or visit any City of La Marque Park https://www.ci.la-marque.tx.us/Facilities

All findings count and our Parks for Pollinators 2025 City of La Marque Parks and Recreation https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/parks-for-pollinators-2025-city-of-la-marque-tx-parks-and-recreation online community will help identify the following species.

*Dragonflies Suborder Anisoptera
*Birds Class Aves
*Flies Order Diptera
*Ants, Bees, Wasps, and Sawflies Order Hymenoptera
*Butterflies and Moths Order Lepidoptera
*Plants Kingdom Plantae
*Tree Squirrels Genus Sciurus
*Hummingbirds Family Trochilidae

Residents can make observations from September 1 - September 30 to include species indicated above during the designated observation week. Our goal is 50 verifiable observations before “La Marque, TX” can receive its own designation in the iNaturalist location dropdown menu. Document your findings via iNaturalist App or www.inaturalist.org/users/sign_in upload your photos and videos daily or after each observation during:

Week 1 09/01-09/06: Birds
Week 2 09/07-09/13: Plants & Trees
Week 3 09/14-09/20: Fish
Week 4 09/21-09/27: Insects
Week 5 09/28-09/30: Animals

Participating in a BioBlitz as a part of the City of La Marque Parks Master Plan will help the City of La Marque identify what pollinators share our local habitat and what plants may be supporting them. Through this 2025 Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz community science event, community members and parks agencies can work together to document, analyze and, ultimately, protect local pollinators. This 2nd annual bioblitz can also help the COLM develop parks and open spaces; in addition, will serve as certification requirements for WHF Assessment, Bird City, Tree City and Mayor’s Monarch Butterfly Pledge.

Light pollution harms birds, but you can help! Turning off lights dramatically reduces hazards from attraction to and disorientation by light, allowing birds to safely proceed with their migratory journeys. Lights Out does more than save birds, it saves energy and money!

Fall Migration Dates
Full Fall Migration Period: August 15 – November 30

✔️Turn off non-essential lights from 11 PM until 6 AM during critical migration periods.
✔️Turn off or dim lobby and atrium lights.
✔️Turn off or dim interior home lighting, or draw blinds to prevent light escaping.
✔️Turn off decorative landscape lighting.
✔️Turn off lights before leaving the home or office.
Be sure outside lights are aimed down and well shielded.
✔️Install motion sensors on outside lights to minimize use.
Prevent daylight collisions with bird friendly products for windows

It’s almost Hummingbird Season. Are you ready?

Of the world’s 350-plus hummingbirds, every last one lives in the Western Hemisphere—and 14 can be found regularly in the western United States and along the southern border. In the summer, many species are already heading south on their extremely early “fall” migrations. At the right place and time, the season offers chances to see a dizzying variety of hummers in one spot. Here’s how to have a hummer summer to remember. bit.ly/4mjwjIk
