"I'm sorry to be so blunt, gentlemen, but my experience is that, generally speaking, if a man does not arrive at a meaning for his pains -- and if that meaning does not evolve into a mandate for his future -- then he is very likely to allow his sufferings to crush him. He'll use them as an excuse for failure, a barrier against people, and a shield against his own emotions."

HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETE PSA

College strength & conditioning is year-round.

Professional strength & conditioning is year-round.

But here's the thing...

The goal isn't to become a lifelong athlete.

The goal is to become a lifelong healthy human.

Too many athletes view training as something they have to do for their sport.

The best athletes learn early that training is something they do for themselves.

Because one day the season ends.

One day the jersey gets put away.

One day nobody cares what your 40-yard dash was.

And when that day comes, the habits you've built are all that's left.

The athletes who continue training after sports aren't usually the most talented.

They're the ones who learned that strength training wasn't punishment.

It was preparation.

Preparation for life.

For carrying kids.

For climbing mountains.

For hunting trips.

For hard work.

For preventing injuries.

For living independently at 80.

Sports simply give us a reason to start.

But health is the reason we continue.

If you're a young athlete, don't train because you're trying to get to the next level.

Train because you're building a body you'll live in for the next 70 years.

The scholarship is a bonus.

The trophy is temporary.

The habits are forever.

Build strength.

Build discipline.

Build resilience.

Build a Well Built Human.

Because the strongest athlete isn't the one who wins the most games.

It's the one who's still training long after the final whistle.

The Anabolics Are Coming.

And honestly?

Nobody should be surprised.

First came the obesity epidemic.
Then came GLP-1 medications.
Now researchers are developing drugs to prevent the muscle loss that often accompanies rapid weight loss.

The cycle is predictable:

Obesity becomes the disease.
GLP-1s become the solution.
Muscle loss becomes the new problem.
Anabolics become the next solution.
And around and around we go.
Before anyone accuses me of being anti-medication, let's be clear:

GLP-1s can be helpful.
For some people, they are life-changing.

But if we aren't simultaneously building strength, eating enough protein, sleeping well, and creating sustainable habits, we're treating symptoms while ignoring causes.

The goal isn't simply to weigh less.
The goal is to become more capable.
Stronger.
Healthier.
More resilient.

The future of health isn't choosing between medicine and lifestyle.

It's remembering that medicine works best when it's built on top of lifestyle.

At Well Built Humans, we'll continue focusing on the things that no pharmaceutical company can patent:

Daily movement.
Strength training.
Protein.
Sleep.
Community.

And the habits that build a well-built human.

"Every man is enthusiastic at times.

One man has enthusiasm for thirty minutes...

Another has it for thirty days....

But it is the man that has it for thirty years who makes a success in life."

You're going to love this conversation with my friend Michael De Jong. Michael wears a lot of hats like myself, and I'm blessed to have him as a friend and brother in Christ. We've been able to sharpen one another in our weak spots in life and have mutually benefited from our friendship. Mike is a pastor, FCA (fellowship of Christian Athletes) director, as well as an entrepreneur so he brings a diverse background and has a unique perspective as he lived a rather "worldly" life for the first half of his life, much like myself.

I can't wait for you to hear from my friend Mike. I hope you're as blessed as I am by his wisdom.
