At Peak Perform

ance Dressage, we recognize the very intimate and special nature that the equine-human partnership develops as a result of the hours and hours of training over the years it takes to progress up the levels in dressage. In order to offer our clients a program of training that fosters on-going growth and skill development, we establish a foundation based on an ever-increasing understanding of dressage theory. We approach training with an open mind, an attention to detail, an appreciation of the nature of equine behavior, a sense of humor, and a dedication to the process. A hallmark of our program is to have an open dialogue with our clients and encourage discussion so that we create a working environment where excellence and understanding are the cornerstones.

With temperatures at 96 degrees before noon, I can’t blame Bronson for trying to get into the cooler tackroom or Drake for hiding under the umbrella!🤪 obviously these 2 horses are not spooky & both have a good sense of humor, tho I can’t endorse these as the safe activities but they are typical of everyday moments in barn life.

An important reminder about blankets & safety for this winter season.

A very important reminder courtesy of the horse doctors at Miamitown Equine Veterinary Services:

"When securing blankets, make sure that the snaps/clips are facing inward, toward the horse! If they are facing out, they can easily become stuck on something, like the hay net in the picture."

I received this pin & notice last week from USEF for all the years in the judge’s booth. For those of us that embark on this journey, it doesn’t reflect the decades of riding, training & showing that gave us the background required to qualify and start the process of education & testing.

Lunge sessions of up to 30 minutes are a routine part of my dressage program for horses of all ages. It helps with supple acceptance of the bit, swing over the back & bending. The club offers great facilities & options for this kind of work shown here with Sula owned by Reba Saxon & Iggy owned by Shannon Griffin.

Anita Sohus & her 17.2 hand gelding Dragonheart aka Drake enjoyed tremendous success at the Dressage at Flintridge Show over Memorial Day weekend show earning her USDF Bronze Medal, the Gerhard Politz Memorial Trophy for the 67+% score at 3/3 and her highest scores ever earned at this level. Looking forward to moving up to 4th level this summer.

The 2022 Dressage at Flintridge Annual Memorial Day Show was a huge success for Dragonheart aka "Drake" and his AA owner Anita Sohus and I. Friday, Drake & I did a warmup ride in 3/2 earning a score of 69%+. Anita went on to pilot Drake over the rest of the weekend to earn multiple awards at 3rd level including their highest scores ever at that level over 65% & 67%. To top off this success Anita earned her USDF bronze medal and the Gerhard Politz Memorial Trophy for the highest score of a Flintridge Riding Club member. So proud of this horse since this was only his second show ever!

Only 4 days until the start of the Dressage at Flintridge Memorial Weekend show May 27-29. So many entries 4 courts are needed so side by side arenas were put in today, to accommodate all the rides that would fit the schedule. New footing in the all the competition arenas as well. Kudos to club staff, the Board, grounds crew & “Tractor Dean”.

To increase your horse’s elasticity ...

Imagine his topline as a giant accordion, breathing in and out. Play with mild increases and decreases in his pace, letting his body move quietly through its spectrum.—Jeremy Steinberg
