When a family begins a Rugby Journey, it is usually one met with a bit of hesitation & a bit of a lack of knowledge, as it isn’t quite mainstream, at least not in the US. However, as families continue on their Rugby Journey, they watch and learn and play & volunteer & finally understand what Rugby is all about. It’s not only about the sport, the athleticism, or the training. It’s much, much more than that. It’s about a Journey. ...our Family began our Rugby Journey when our oldest, Alex Schlager was in 5th grade. A lifelong friend who played rugby, and was now a rugby coach, said “hey I’m going to have your kid play with our team. I need another player for this rugby tournament. Don’t worry, he’ll be great. He’s in very trustworthy & capable hands“. Indeed he was. The next time that promise was made, it was from the mouth of Doc Gregg Jones and our son gained another Mentor & Coach & Friend😊🏉
Throughout every team the Common Denominator with every coach he had was TRUST, LEADERSHIP & MENTORSHIP. And the RESPECT that players have for their coaches, and also, more importantly, Coaches have for their players. Doc saw Alex play when he was 15. From that day, he earned the Respect & Trust, not only of a young Rugby Player who was eager, but more importantly, of our Family.
Doc puts his players first. He instills in them lessens such as, “Make Their Bed Every Day” & teaches them to ‘Go To Work Every Day”, which are life skills so necessary & important to the Development of these young men. He teaches teamwork, camaraderie, trust, motivation, integrity, leadership, and the importance of education, on & off the Pitch. His life of Service to his Country as a US Marine, to Service to his Profession as a Chiropractor, to Service to his Rugby Teams & Players & to KU make Doc a true Gift to everyone who has the honor of meeting & learning from a great & highly respected & trustworthy Man.
