Formed in 2005, the Secret City Dragons (formerly SC MAD PADDLERS) was the first full-time dragonboat team in Tennessee. The team is based in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, but practices in Knoxville. et City Dragons have had Gold, Silver & Bronze finishes in mixed and women’s divisions in various festivals, won two Community Cups in mixed division, along with numerous Top Ten finishes over the years. We have resumed practices, post Covid, and are on the water on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. Built on having fun, while encouraging teamwork and camaraderie, the Secret City Dragons is open to beginners and experienced paddlers alike. Experienced coaching will bring beginners up to paddling speed quickly and help skilled paddlers perfect their stroke during weekly open water practices. Practices are held, rain or shine, on Fort Loudon Lake, launching from the Duncan Boat Dock, 2329 Duncan Road, Knoxville, Tennessee 37919. All equipment is provided and a beginner’s first practice is free, so what have you got to lose? Guest paddlers can sit in on a practice for $5. Monthly rates available for members.
