Infill is one of the most asked about parts of an artificial turf football field installation.

Every artificial turf football field gets filled with two things — crumb rubber and silica sand. The silica sand is not your average play sand. It is 100% round and non-angular, which means it never compacts, never gets hard, and stays fluid throughout the entire life of the field. All of it goes into a broadcast spreader, gets distributed evenly across the field, and then a machine called a LayMore brooms it up and works it in. At Knoxville Catholic, there are still a couple more trucks of this material coming in before that process begins.

Four weeks in at Knoxville Catholic and the field is completely green.
Infill out. Old turf out. Sub base regraded, replaned, and recompacted. Full turf coverage down. Hash marks cut and glued by hand. Number package complete on the home side. Away side numbers, midfield logo, and end zone lettering still to go.

Five panels down at Knoxville Catholic and the sixth is going in now.
Each roll spans the entire width of the field. They go down upside down first, then get flipped back and forth until the edge lines up perfectly for the sewing machine to run down the side. This thing is moving quick.
