Systems change. Brands rise and fall. As technology keeps improving so does the speed that companies are able to move. Every now and then an entire industry gets caught with old technology and a small more agile player is able to come in underneath the giants and shake the whole house down to its foundations. I think that is exactly what is happening right now. The pain the bike industry is experiencing is not due to Covid. It’s a wholesale shift in back end systems that are allowing new brand names to provide better, faster, cheaper products to the masses in a way that the big brands simply are not capable of. My prediction is that our current stock of “high end” bikes from the biggest brands are sitting right about twice the price they should be. I would be surprised if the generally accepted price of bikes drops nearly in half over the next 5 years.
